My "Kate" looks like that, too, and trust me, the privacy box wouldn't help. That thing just shouts all you're doing (and I can't seem to find the headphone jack). I'm glad mine's next to a Rug Doctor that mesmerizes people instead :D

I found one like this today. But that Kate was very quiet!

I have only one store with that funky looking Kate, all others look like the regular ATM with side dividers. They all shout though, and plugging in headphones only shouts out loud AND in the headphones.

The name probably makes sense when you know where it came from, but it's the only MS term I haven't been able to figure out the origination of. Of course, I generally ignore posts about it anyway - only one WM around here actually has one, and I've never seen it not broken. Oh well, it's faster at the register anyway.

People on here started personifying the kiosks and their mood swings, and started calling them "Kiosk Kates". Since WMMCEK* sounds like a bad radio station, people decided to start calling the kiosks Kate rather than using the acronym

I don't see the problem. Just when it wants to shout "500 dollars", put you hand over the speaker grill.

Thank you. I never could figure that one out. I take back what I said about it making perfect sense, but at least now I know. One mystery solved.
