You can use TYPs for paid travel ... 5x TYP is 5-6.65¢ per dollar at CVS.
Sure, you can't transfer them to miles, but are you getting 5-6.65 cpm value? I find these types of points great for domestic trips.

Correct.
You may want to rethink or learn something new.
Not just domestic trip. Can buy intra-Europe tickets as long as the carriers are not LCCs. You can buy AB, IB, AZ, etc and get the same discount, though you would need to check the prices on ITA to make sure TYP network not overcharging it. If the system does not give it correct price, ask for a Manual Booking Specialist or someone who knows how to manually adjust the GDS system. There are some discussions in the TYP thread in the other forum. There are details of a poster unearthed the magic approach to get TYP network adjusted the GDS and issued an International airline tickets with the proper discount.

With new drugstore difficulties, I tried a Valero, where I found the cards. But the cashier said it was "cash only" due to a "problem last week." I asked to speak to the manager, and he said something about people phoning in to try to "get the numbers." He called his boss to see if he could sell me the cards anyway, and the boss said no.
I still think the majority of VR sales are to flyertalkers these days, but there does seem to be a criminal element also targeting the cards. I guess where there's money, there's going to be crime.

I've had the same experience around my house. A few that allow but most have a prompt that alerts "CASH ONLY"

2 Lucky's near my home carries stacks of VR.
1 store has a signed posted in giftcard racks saying all financial cards must be bought with cash only with an handwriting saying that debit card okay.
the other one doesnt have sign so tried twice with 2 different cashiers and both got shut down.

That is what I thought as well. The clerk called the manager as she was new to the process and the manager immediately said cash only, and I politely asked if they can atleast try to let me, if the register doesn't allow me, I will not buy them. There was no message on the register, and since that day, the clerks know me by face and don't even bother asking me the amount to load or checking my ID
