You can use Google Voice.
I was able to transfer $150 successfully in June 2011. I tried transferred $500 again in June 2011 from one account to another. That transfer was flagged. Result: one account was nuked, and the other one (the one they allowed me to keep) is currently frozen. Any bank routing and account numbers associated with either account seem to be blacklisted. I am not sure, but the CC #s associated with both accounts may be black listed as well.
That is the end of Venmo for me.

limit of monthly cc payment
As I was reading through the thread I think I missed the current monthly cc payment limit?
I see some people are able to do $1200, but is that the current limit? Some people are suggesting doing smaller amounts to avoid being banned. Are there any hard and fast rules that work best and still max out the cc payment options?
Thanks.

the limits range, depending on what they want to do. I've seen accounts with $1200 and also up to $2,000 (that is the max in their terms and conditions). Just to let you know, do not use fake names and use credit cards that are in the account holders name. You may be asked to prove this information at some time (hint, hint), and if you can't, your accounts will remain frozen.

As many have noted, you DO NOT need an invite code to sign up Venmo.
Just navigate to a current member's Venmo page and sign up from there.
Here are some links collected from the posts above:
https://venmo.com/DanielKahn
https://venmo.com/iqrammusic
Or go to https://venmo.com/ and on lower left hand side under "People using Venmo". Just use any one of their page and click on "Signup". Once you sign up, you can "unfriend" them. :-)

frozen
My son signed up without a referal under his name. He used my american express, he is an authorized user and payed me for rent that he owes. They froze his account and said they need a copy of his government Id and all CC under his account, (just that one) he is 24 and has a job just building credit and trying to save so the CC payment allows him some time to pay me back in time. What should he do in their request? Is there an issue with this?
Thanks

Venmo might have thought this was just a fake account. If he is an authorized user he may have put the same physical address as his mother's. Or.. if he signed up using her internet connection they might have shared the same IP address.

Sorry but Amex doesn't know the details of one's Venmo account. It's not as if these two companies are sharing information about their consumers. All Amex is seeing is two transactions for Venmo on one account. I'm not sure why this would raise red flags.
