Amazon Payments to remove person-to-person payment option

Just got this in my email. Looks like it's curtains for using AP to quickly meet minimum spend...

Greetings from Amazon Payments:

Each year we send out a notice to every person who has an active Amazon Payments account. This notice is not a bill; it contains important information about our privacy practices, changes we are making to the availability of certain services, and how you can report errors or unauthorized transactions related to your account.

We appreciate the trust that you have put in Amazon Payments by using our services and want to make sure you are informed about our policies and practices. We know that you care how information about you is used and shared. To help you understand our privacy practices, we have detailed how we collect, use and safeguard your personal and financial information in our Privacy Notice (https://payments.amazon.com/help/Per...Privacy-Notice).

Our Unauthorized Transaction Policy (https://payments.amazon.com/help/Per...actions-Policy) describes how you can report to us any billing errors or unauthorized transactions involving the use of your account balance or registered bank account. It also describes our liability and your rights for these types of errors or transactions.

Additionally, we have updated the terms and conditions of our User Agreement (https://payments.amazon.com/help/Per...User-Agreement) that apply to your use of the products and services provided by Amazon Payments. Our updated User Agreement revises certain terms (including, among other things, the elimination of person-to-person payments). Our new User Agreement will become effective on October 13, 2014, which is more than 30 days from when we first posted our updated User Agreement. By continuing to use our services after October 13, 2014, you are agreeing to be bound by the terms and conditions of our new User Agreement.

Please take a moment to review our Privacy Notice (https://payments.amazon.com/help/Per...Privacy-Notice), Unauthorized Transaction Policy (https://payments.amazon.com/help/Per...actions-Policy), and User Agreement (https://payments.amazon.com/help/Per...User-Agreement). They may be found by clicking the User Agreement/Policies link on our web site at payments.amazon.com.

If you have questions or concerns about this information, please contact us by signing in to your Amazon Payments account and clicking on the Contact Us link (https://payments.amazon.com/contact) or by writing to us at Amazon Payments, Attn: Compliance, P.O. Box 81226 Seattle, Washington 98108-1226.

Thank you for using Amazon Payments.

Sincerely,
The Amazon Payments Team

Good night sweet prince.

It seems we've been saying goodbye to many old friends in the last 6 months.

Our good friend Wally may be next on the chopping block.

Prepare for the APOCALYPSE people!

I saw this in another thread.

However where does it actually say that in the User Agreement?

Majority of people use this for innocuous small items like paying the babysitter. They are going to eliminate that entirely?

Well that's not cool.

Might as well do A->B->A this month and next month.

It doesn't say anything about P2P payments in the new agreement. Thats what it means to eliminate something.

Old Terms
P3.1 General. You may make payments to any person who has a valid e-mail address and a Payment Account or establishes one with us. Unregistered users may not access funds sent to them until and unless (a) they create a Personal Account or Business Account and verify their e-mail address and (b) we verify their identity in accordance with Section 2.3. If an intended recipient does not have a Personal Account or Business Account, he or she will be notified that a payment request has been initiated and prompted to create an account by visiting our Site. When you send a payment, you remain the owner of those funds until that payment is accepted by the recipient. We hold those funds on your behalf, but you will not be able to disburse or send those funds to any other user unless the initial transaction is cancelled or rejected. If a payment is denied or unclaimed by the recipient, the funds will be returned to the sender (less applicable fees). We are not liable to any person for any damages associated with any unaccepted payment. Any time you send funds you are doing so at your own risk.

New Terms
B3.1 General. You may use your Payment Account to make purchases of goods and services wherever Amazon Payments is accepted.

Ah thanks I didn't think to look for the old agreement to compare against.

That's unfortunate. At least it lasted as long as it did.

So does that mean we need to set up business accounts with Amazon so we can accept payments for "services"? They're probably eliminating P2P since they recently released the ALR :(

I'm gonna go ahead and assume that if you do that, the transfers won't be free.

Mamibear Sep 10, 2014 4:20 pm

with these revisions in T&C, I'm just glad I didn't set up ALR so I don't have what if's in my mind on what they'll think of next.

Well, at least it's after Oct. 1 so I can get my Discover Q4 CB.

I don't understand the point of this service if they get rid of the person to person payments though. No one else uses this on their website to accept payments.

bigugly Sep 10, 2014 4:43 pm

No more AP? Dammit! I literally just started!

I guess we can still register additional family and neighbors to repay them for goods and services until 10/13, right?

VizeL Sep 10, 2014 4:59 pm

Damn :(
