Good-News-Update bei Gallivanter's

According to the brillant actual copy of Gallivanter's Guide (reporting from Bangkok), seven Aman projects - which were discussed here before, always updated at the start of this threat - are going ahead:

- Amankea in Greece "about to break ground"

- Aman Porto Heli in Greece "most likely opening early 2012"

- Aman Bodrum in Turkey "will open late summer"

- Aman Göcek in Turkey is "envisaged"

- Aman Dibeen in Jordan "delayed until 2013"

- Aman at Phare de Bombe Beach in Gambon "scheduled for 2012"

- Aman at Playa Grande, Domenican Republic, is "happening"

That's very promising indeed - with the biggest, nearly unbelievable surprise, that Aman Bodrum (which was fist rumored to me by an Aman manager in Winter 2009/2010) will open that soon!

On the other hand I have some fears about the Amans in Portugal, which are NOT reported at Gallivanter's... First there were three, then there were two, now there is not one discussed anymore. Hope they will show up again soon!

On page 1 of this thread and on Gallivanter's, we talk about Amanheli and Amankea for a long time. Amanmila is cancelled, according to multiple sources.

Do you have information of even more Amans in Greece?

Amanmila involved the same investors (Dolphin) and architect (John Heah) as Amankea - they found a better site on the island of Kea, which is now going ahead.

Gabon, Gabon, Gabon

Gallivanter twitters, that there will be even 3 resorts in African country Gabon, developping it to a baliesque destination: http://twitter.com/#!/Gallivanters

Nice, BUT: Only Air France is flying there from Europe...

But you know how it works - if you build it they will come. Soon as the airlines see the potential, Air France will have competition. I bet by the time they have built all three (that's if they happen), Air France will have company.

AZ went to Gabon last year and was wooed by the tourist minister who sees the country as a high-end tourism option. It's an interesting destination, but like many Amanprojects, you never know what will happen between saying yes and actually building.....

The first Aman in Gabon at Le Phare de Gombe beach could be open as early as next year. The other two at Kangou waterfalls and Hippo beach will be later...hopefully!

I don't know whether this has been already posted, but I have found these interesting pictures/infos in the Jean Michel Gathy website.

1) pictures of Aman Sveti Stefan

http://www.denniston.com.my/webpagev...ti_stefan.html

(click on the "gallery" below and browse the pictures)

2) pictures of what seems to be a the sample of a pavillion in Baja California (which looks spectacular)

http://www.denniston.com.my/webpagev...orts_Baja.html

3) reference to a AMAN VINH HY Resort in Vietnam (but no pictures) in the Projects page

Nope, this is not the Aman in Jordan. So far this project does not have an operator and the owners might develop their own operator to manage it. Aman is still searching for a plot of land in the same area, Wadi Rum, as this project though.

Aman's project that is a go in Jordan (and the mock up rooms are being completed) is in the dibeen area which is actually a forest and is a 3 hour drive from Wadi Rum and an hour from the airport of Amman.

If we just could bring Aman and the owners together, since they will not find a better operator. And if we just could bring Aman and this brillant architect together, since such a design refresh could take Aman another step further!

Any word on improvements to the pistes/lifts? Andermatt's a great place if you are a very strong off-piste skier, for everyone else it's less than average and the town isn't exactly lively.
