Uhhh. No. The bass from the disco across the bay permeates the glass and shakes those windows. And this assumes that the air conditioning works and the windows are closed. When I was there, the AC was broken for three days and I had to have the windows open. So I got all the noise normally blocked by the windows along with the boom-shaka-shaka-boom-boom-boom from the bass speakers.
Also, there was massive construction in that open middle section during my stay, dramatically restricting the the number of rooms to the ones out of range of the jack hammers .... those started at 7am. So the boom-shaka-shaka-boom-boom-boom started at about 10pm and lasted until 5:30am. Then the jack hammers started at 7am. And in a room with no AC. I did have a two fireplaces in the suite for those chilly Singapore nights.
Altogether a disaster. I won't return.

On arrival back to my room after a late dinner on the second evening, the problem seemed to be fixed. I also received an apology note, together with a bottle of Moet and some nibbles. The apology note also offered a free night for future use - which I availed myself of in June 2013.
The drilling in the conference suite areas was really annoying though.
I am not exactly a connoisseur of lux hotels, but despite the AC problem the FBH tops all my other experiences.

Mandarin Oriental?
Either my search isn't working right, or the MO hasn't been discussed in this thread. Any experiences there?

The MO is difficult to search for as FT only allows searches of 3 letters or more. I'm sure it would have been discussed at some stage though.

It's far from luxury, but for the price you're paying at MO (and what you get out of it) you might as well save some money and stay at the Pan Pacific next door. Same view, really...

If you take a suite at MO Singapore the experience is quite good these days. Very comfortable and with nice little furnished balconies on the corners. They have redesigned the spa entirely and the outdoor pool area and Italian restaurant. I now think their pool area is the best around - much nicer than FS. Not sure the Club Floor is as good as it once was, though, and the lobby, of course, despite a bit of sprucing up, is terribly dated.

Leaving Saturday for five hard earned nights at the Marriott on Orchard Road. Any recent guests who might have suggestions, recommendations, tips to make this Platinum Elite couple get the most out of our stay? Most of the reviews on Tripadvisor have been glowing. My wife read where chewing gum is not permitted in the hotel or any public place in Singapore. Could anyone quickly confirm or refute this unappreciated rumor as we are both frequent masticators. Any advice regarding the hotel will be appreciated before we part with 140,000 very hard earned points. Thank you.

Chewing gum itself is fine , just don't litter - dispose appropriately . Not sold in Singapore .
Besides the F & B outlets , check out the Marketplace in TANGS basement for local fare next to hotel , same building.
Enjoy your stay & visit

Singapore Hotels, Direct Comparsion: Mandarin Oriental vs. Fullerton Bay
Hi Folks,
for my Asia trip next month I have still missing the hotel in Singapore.
I have read the entire thread on Singapore Hotel Comparsion here on flyertalk and after this there are two hotels remaining, the MO Singapore and the Fullerton Bay Hotel.
Important for me:
- Great pool area with great service and good meals
- Modern room/suite without wear and tear
Has anybody stayed at both and can directly compare this?
As a city suite in MO is only around 100 US$ more than a premier room at FBH I am currently tending to MO.
What do you think?
By-The-Way, if you can also recommend the best restaurants in Singapore, feel free to do so

Fullerton Bay is new. When was MO last renovated?

Fullerton Bay has bad food and 'meh' service. The pool area on the roof is public so don't expect much privacy. FBH gets noise from the disco across the bay at the base of the Marina Bay Sands -- that goes on until 5:30am and closing the windows DOES NOT HELP. If you choose Fullerton Bay, MAKE SURE the air conditioning is working. They have 'issues' there ... And make sure there isn't any construction going on. They aren't terribly honest about that ...
Oh, and I've never posted this, but here is a picture of FBH breakfast:
.
Note the deep fried triangle. This apparently is what the chef at 5* FBH considers 'hash browns'. This is the same greasy hockey puck you get at McDonald's for $0.49. This shocked me. Even Denny's doesn't attempt to serve this sort of cheap crud. I guess real potatoes are too hard to get in Singapore. At least it isn't a buffet.
I've not been to the MO. The lobby, unless it has changed, is positively putrid. Truly shocking to the senses ...
For a nice pool, I think nothing beats Raffles. Although Raffles has the most hostile staff I've ever encountered and the rooms are very old and awkward ... and F&B wasn't that good and is was pricey.
St Regis is OK, but the pool is blah and F&B weak.
My FS room could best be described as a dark, gloomy cave. Maybe 'prison-like' is a better adjective. BK was good.
Ritz is OK, but a little large and corporate for me. F&B was average at best with the 'B' part being much below average.
PS -- For meals, I've thoroughly enjoyed Akanoya Robatayaki

With all the fabulous local food you recommend a Japanese restaurant! Satay is the Singapore equivalent of Robatayak. For food the local hawker centres are great - for a beginner Gluttons Bay on the Esplanade is good. If you like seafood I recommend one of the restaurants at the East Coast Seafood Centre.
