If you arrived at A11-25 (which are also Z11-25 upstairs) you might have been able to deplane onto Z Pier. They seem to keep on changing the arrangement. However, if it was A26-42 there are no Z (non-Schengen) gates above and you have to get on a bus. They sometimes do this for ex-UK flights as it's more convenient for the aircraft's departure to the next destination.
If it was a nice almost empty space with passport control on your right it must have been A non-Schengen bus arrival. When you got to the top of the escalator you probably turned left and walked through the central atrium area to the Skyline train platform. B non-Schengen bus arrival is in a dingy basement in the bowels of FRA and when you get to the top of the escalator you go left for passport control or turn right and back in the direction you came and round the corner for security. The only time I only had two people in front of me at Pier B security was at around 5:30am on New Year's Day!

C to B FCL
Ok - let me try to narrow this down even more. Arriving from JFK @ a C gate - to get to the B FCL must I go thru security again? I wont need to go thru passport control as Ill be connecting to another long haul but will spend the time between flights in the B FCL.
a) must I go thru security? Where
b) I assume its an easy (yet long) walk down the C corridor and a quick left turn into term B is that about it?
thanks - gave up after looking thru 40 pages

If entering Schengen isn't a problem going through passport control and walking to the FCT is less hassle. I've just tried FRA Airport app which is supposed to give you the route to follow but it failed the test straightaway by suggesting that in order to go from C13-20 to B22 you must first go through passport control.
It's been a while since I last walked from C to B (C14 to FCL B) I looked at my collection of Frankfurt Airport photos on flickr (there are nearly 500 of them now ) and put together a pictorial guide.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/2628497...7633818314336/
Most of the photos were taken in January 2011 (when there were camp beds in the passage for stranded passengers) but a couple of photos taken near the escalators to the Skyline train platforms were from earlier trips. You will notice the design of signs has changed.
Coming from C13-16 gates you will pass passport control on your right. If you continue there used to be another set of passport control near the Skyline train platforms (not sure if they are still there) and if you carried on further you eventually came to Pier B passport control and security.

Are you sure your flight from JFK will arrive in C? If it does, after a long walk you go through security when you reach Pier B. There will be more than one left turn but just follow the signs for B22 gate. After security in Pier B turn right instead of following the signs for B20-48 gates. You will come to the top of an escalator taking you down more or less right in front of another escalator to take you up to the FCL B.

Thanks for this......FRA is the only airport I know that I can transit 100 times and something new still pops up. Yes, for some reason the late flight from JFK has been arriving at the C gates. The DXB flight has also been departing from C about half the time but Im not spending 3 hours in the Senator lounge there.. I usually use the FCT but only cuz my trips usually begin at FRA - I rarely make connections. I guess I could shlep over there if the lines are to long for B security. I imagine I will walk past it anyway. (then again I have 10 days and my whole itin could change 5 times
Thank again

If you arrive at a Z gate it's a no brainer. Don't follow the signs for connecting flights and turn right towards the central atrium but go straight (or bear left) down the escalator to passport control. (I've never done this myself after arriving from the US but have done so when arriving from non-Schengen on Z-arrival level and I know there are exit signs on the Schengen level as well.) When you leave the main terminal through the last exit it's only a couple of minutes' walk to the FCT.

Sometimes a connection in FRA might involve an overnight stay at an airport hotel. This is a pictorial guide on how to get from the Hilton/Hilton Garden Inn to Frankfurt Airport Terminal 1.
Here is a plan showing the train stations, parking garages and the main terminal. The map does not include the Hilton/HGI but they are above and to the left of the long-distance train station (Fernbahnhof). The building marked 'Hotel' next to P4 is the Sheraton. Follow the pink route to walk from the Hilton/HGI/long-distance train station to the main terminal.
The Hilton/HGI and the train station are linked by escalators as well as an elevator (located to the left of this photo).
At the bottom of the escalator/elevator you will pass Starbucks on the right and a steak restaurant on the left.
Coming from the long-distance train station the 'AiRail check-in' is on your right as you will see on this detailed plan. As the sign outside shows anyone can check-in here for LH flights whether they have luggage or not. There's no need to take your luggage to the main terminal.
At the T-junction you will come across this lovely signboard.
Go down the escalator and you will find yourself in the T1 check-in hall between A and B.

Thanks NewbieRunner for posting this- by the way the steak restaurant is quite good and reasonably priced.

If you want coffee and a better selection of baked goods and bread than is generally offered by Starbucks, there is another coffee shop on the other end of the concourse (past the "T" junction) that is also quite good.

Good point- and also upstairs the Japanese isn't too bad and very reasonably priced (granted it is not gourmet but it does hit a quick sushi craving well and has good service).

I am flying LH1125 from BCN arriving at 12:45.
Departing on TG921 in F at 14:45. I have a couple of questions.
1. Even though the bookings are separate, am I right in assuming I will be able to check my bags through to BKK at BCN?
2. Which F lounge do you recommend I use and will I be escorted from there to the plane? Before or after passport control?
Thanks for your help. I read the last 30 pages or so of this thread and couldn't find an answer.
