LH now served chilled Smirnoff with the caviar. As much as I enjoy chilled vodka I would not touch Smirnoff.
The quality of champagne has gone down as well. Haven't seen Dom in a while.
LH has never excelled with champs in F, for me nothing memorable since 2000 (when i first stepped my foot aboard LH F)....they rotate champagne very often and vary it by routes within the food cycles, they serve different bottles not listed on the menu very often (excuse is we ran out)........some airlines serve better champagne in business class than what LH serves in F.....and agian for the glasses that they use in F

LH474

Hello Flyertalk!

I'll be flying F on LH474 MUC - YUL in October and I was wondering what order the meal service will follow. Most of the menus I've seen ex Germany show the big meal first, followed by a smaller service close to landing, but where this flight departs soon after lunch at 15:35 that would seem off to me. Just wondering if I should have a big breakfast and maybe skip lunching in the lounge?

Thanks for your advice!

One of the advantages of flying in F is you don't have to eat when they want to serve you a meal but when you are ready. It will be a big meal first and a light meal/snack later in the flight depending on the length of flight.

So you can enjoy a lunch in the FCL before the flight, relax and ask for your main meal later.

Here's a recent thread.

Yes, a very tortured experience! Especially when the FA expertly topped the delicious escargot soup with a dry Reisling http://www.flickr.com/photos/6936253...7627902727611/

I doubt there is any other airline that serves the above and tasty tenderloin of rabbit. Exquisite. Served in courses or all at once, your choice. Fabulous.

Moving over ... to LH

I was blown away by the delicious meals and drinks that were served on LH760 from FRA to DEL yesterday. The service was also exquisite. It helps if you have the ENTIRE 747-8 upper deck to yourself and a travel companion.

Best J cuisine of 2013

During this year, I've had the opportunity to dine on business class meals aboard Lufthansa, Asiana, Singapore (both book the cook and regular menu), Air Canada, United, and Virgin Australia.

Lufthansa's meals were the best of all these dining experiences, as was the meal service itself. Singapore and Asiana had better wines, champagne, and liquor. But Lufthansa's food was fresher, tastier, and seemed to have higher quality ingredients.

Perhaps everyone on this board knows how well off they are, but for those who complain about LH meals all I can say is that the tray tables on all the rest of my *A flights this year have been mostly much less appetizing.

I am not that spoiled with First Class yet, but I was very impressed by LH food in FRA first class lounges and in-flight (well, only one complaint-lobster was way too salty, so I didn`t enjoy it at all). A steak I had in the lounge was to die for! Everything was handpicked, fresh, and delicious, I could have lived there Can`t wait to repeat the experience!

I have to agree with the champagne part, as I don`t like the changes Last year they served a better champagne in J than what they serve this year in First (and in J as well). However, the lounges in FRA have a better quality champagne.

I haven't flown AC for a couple of years now, and never on VA, but as for the other airlines listed, I tend to agree with the quote above.

I find the LH C menus to be thought-out and quite tasty--at the very least on-par with other major global competitors. I wonder sometimes how much personal taste preferences affect the evaluations of one airline versus another, since I find airlines from different parts of the world design menus differently.

My experience is that when I do have a poor on-board meal, the problem is linked more to service failure (e.g. poor preparation/assembly/presentation either by catering or the crew) than food quality or menu design.

Is the First Class ex USA menu consistent for all flights? I'm on a 10pm flight out of ORD and was wondering if they will serve a full menu given that it's a late flight.
