I don't like it either - it's dull. I don't want to be biased towards the blue and yellow but a single color livery has to be spectacular to go for it - this one isn't. I miss another color - not necessarily have to be yellow but something. The German flag is black, red and yellow. By getting rid of the yellow, they now have none of the flag colors. Black is way too dark, so using red or yellow or both would have been nice. Not sure how they came up with blue. In the US, most airlines play with red and blue, at some point it gets tired. Why LH would want to pick a livery that I have to admit looks very similar to the one posted of Syrian, is beyond me. Luckily for me, I don't fly LH too often, so I won't have to look at it (hopefully).

Germans tend to avoid anything related to black, red or gold (not yellow!!) Due to a certain 12 years in the last century ;)

The black, red and gold flag was illegal during "a certain 12 years". Red, white and black was where it was at then, in the form of stripes or swastikas.

The only people who equate black/red/gold with rampant German nationalism, or indeed the Third Reich, are the usual suspects who hate everything German (including themselves) for the sake of it.
(That doesn't mean LH should use those colours. They're not a state-owned airline any more.)

The brand colors have been blue, yellow and white for 60+ years now, so I don't think they were going to completely move away from that. They probably got rid of the yellow because someone in a meeting talked about how yellow doesn't test well and how it's associated with danger and alarm and then he talked about how modern design is all about simplicity and cleanliness, how super bright colors are putting people off and are associated with cheapness while premium designs are understated e.g. Apple's white/black look.

The German flag stands for nationalism which generations of Germans have been told is a bad thing. Hence till 2006 the only place you find it was on leisure boats. Times are changing but no one would paint an aircraft in national colors....

The 747-8 with the new livery has just left Italy on its way to Germany.

Please dont overthink this. There are no significant differences between the rows/seats (except for the bulkhead seats) and you will be fine in any seats you choose.

Some clever person posted on Facebook a simple but rather great idea to improve the insipid new livery. The yellow really seems to brighten the new livery and adds a sense of identity back.

Other brands have made yellow backgrounds on logos become a bit associated with cheapness over here nowadays:

It's funny how some random on the internet can do a better job than the people actually paid to do it. It's such an obvious thing too that I find it difficult to believe it wasn't on the table during the design process. I'd guess that getting rid of the yellow became some executive's 'thing' to leave a mark on the airline, so no-one was allowed to point out the obvious. (No insider knowledge in LH, just basing it on having been involved in too many corporate initiatives myself that were someone's ultimately pointless 'baby')

What looks good in photoshop doesn't necessarily transfer well to a 70m long aircraft. See how the first impression of the dark blue looks black in real life... For the yellow to contrast to the very dark blue it has to be nearly neon.

I take Prospero’s point above, about how it is refined and demonstrates that less can be more. But I still find it very bland and just a bit similar to the very drab logo of AirEuropa.

Here is the old one, which is much better:

And the new, bland one. At least, it looks ok here but not on the planes:

I was at the A Senator Lounge yesterday at FRA. The LH logos were covered over with sheets. Might that have been because of this rebranding?
