Hotels, again
I hope this is in the right place, apologies if not.
Advice needed for Vegas trip 30th August 07 - 6th September 07.
Looking for a largish room, preferably with fridge/coffe maker, nice bedding
We're hiring a car so being a bit further out is not a problem.
Prov. booked at TI, but can cancel.
Any views on the
Westin Casaurina (don't mind the walk to the strip)
Southpoint hotel & Spa
Holiday Inn Express (South)
Platinumn
Meridian Resort (Flamingo Road)
Luxor (players suite)
Any information or other suggestion much appreciated.
Kaz
The Wynn, Bellagia, Mandalay, Venetian are silly prices for our dates, so out of the question.

TI standard rooms are quite small.
Westin Casaurina (don't mind the walk to the strip) - Standard room sizes, so I've heard.
Southpoint hotel & Spa - New and larger rooms, but no fridge in rooms that I'm aware of.
Holiday Inn Express (South) - Very highly rated on TripAdvisor, but unknown if fridge in room.
Platinumn - Condos, so here's your "large" criteria. Full kitchens and dining rooms. Close to Strip. Personally, this may be your best choice.
Meridian Resort (Flamingo Road) - Unknown.
Luxor (players suite) - Well, if they'll take care of you, this sounds sweet. Don't know about size and fridge availability, however.
Also consider the Renaissance near the convention center - fridges in all rooms; nice sized; flat panel TVs; kind of a hip vibe/feel; Marriott points if it's important to you. Savvy Traveler rate may be available for your dates. Go to their specific website and look at "Specials and Packages."

I would recommend the Hilton Grand Vacation Club on the Las Vegas Strip (beware there are three Hiltons - this one is referred to as "on the Las Vegas Strip" to avoid confusion).
You can see the rooms on the link above. See my review here. If you got a two bedroom suite I think this wold be just what you are looking for.
Also note you can get it virtually free if you can sit through a three hour timeshare condo presentation.....
PS bagpuss - love the handle!!
Do check back on the prices at the other hotels you mentioned as they do come down nearer the time, and if you can get put on the email lists you get sent some great discount codes.
If you are coming from the UK as your handle suggests, note www.maxjet.com have some great 599 all in return fares in business class Stansted to Vegas direct.

It's about 1 mile from the Strip and 1.5 miles from the Convention Center:

Any hotel in Las Vegas will be glad to lend you a mini-refrigerator if you call the front desk and tip the deliverer $5. Most hotels do not have coffeemakers, the ones you would want to stay in have 24-hour room service and they don't like competition. The Westin Casuarina is a fine 4* hotel with coffeemakers, and they feature the "Heavenly Bed," but the rooms are tiny. If I were you I would look into the Rio which has very large rooms and is a superb value. The Players Suite at the Luxor is a large room with a jacuzzi in the room. South Point is quite a drive from the rest of things. Of the off-strip properties with kitchens, Residence Inn would be my pick far and away over Hawthorn.

Hi everyone,
I have booked Maxjet, and the Hilton Grand vacation, one bedroom suite, 2650 LV Blvd South (So it's on the Strip)^ but a bit further away from all the noise. Great while you're walking around but nice to get away from.
I've just got to book the car hire and a few trips, ATV, Grand canyon etc and I'll be all set. Then I'll have to learn how to play cards, might come in handy in the casino!!
Any (nice) suggestions for things to do would be appreciated.

We have stayed several times at the HGVC on the strip. It has a full kitchen with a washer and dryer that will come in handy for a week-long trip. The pool area is very large and nice. The location is an easy walk to the Sahara or Circus Circus. Not really that far away from things, but far enough to be a bit more resort like.
When we had our kids in town we rented a boat and jet ski on Lake Mead. It was a great way to spend a hot summer day. Here's a link to just one of the marina's. http://www.sunsetcities.com/lake-mead-marina.html
Since you will be renting a car you will not need to take a "tour" to the Hoover Dam. It is an easy drive and with your own car you can spend as much time as you like there.
A new attraction that is about 3 hours from Vegas is the Sky Walk. If you are not afraid of heights you might enjoy the drive into the mountains to visit this location. http://www.grandcanyonskywalk.com/home.html
There are lots of activities to choose from, you should not run out of things to do!

Looks like everything is set, but just to add in case someone references this later:
Westin -- don't know the rooms, but it has a nice smaller casino. Used to have a happy hour when they would run discount minimums at the tables, but I don't know if that's still running.
South Point (formerly South Coast) -- only ever heard bad things from people that stayed there.
Luxor -- stayed in one of the 1BR suites that have a fridge. Was there in June and the A/C had a really hard time trying to keep the room at a reasonable temperature until about 10-11pm. Just seemed underpowered. Otherwise, I was happy with it but I think the decision has been made that we are not staying at Luxor again.
