Thank you all for your input. I travel for work and have been to all the chain steakhouses throughout the country. Being from NY I take accounts out to the original Palm, Smith & Wollensky, Peter Luger's, Ben Benson's. So hard to judge the branches. I try and go to "local" places when I travel to make it unique. I love Gibson's in Chicago for that reason.
Last time was at Delmonico's and was disappointed.
I am not a steakhouse kind of girl- so I rarely pass judgement.
I will have to take them where they want to go. Just wanted to know what to expect.
I have been going to Las Vegas for 25 years and know that Circus Circus is not the most "elegant" place! LOL!
I will update the experience when I get back.

I only see two negative comments and many more positive comments.

I haven't been myself, but have only heard similar comments to what has been echoed by many here, it's pretty good. I believe they have a good Sunday Brunch in particular.

Our last trip we ate at Roberta's in El Cortez, another one I had heard good things about despite it's location, and it was worth the trip too.

The steakhouse is (much like Roberta's*) a gem that one doesn't expect in a comparative dump. I've been on nicer riverboat casinos. If the client is aware that the casino itself is a total dive and wants to go to the restaurant, I wouldn't hesitate.

One of my favorite quotes about the original (1968) theme of Circus Circus was in a documentary shown on the Vegas Channel: it was to the effect of "Adults found the theme confusing, while children found the theme terrifying." Based upon my stay in December 2007 (cheaper than free from AAVacations), I must have been both a child and adult of the late 1960's . . .

* The LVA even has a good weeknight coupon at Roberta's.

CC is a dump and has been going downhill for years. LV has oodles of restaurants with very good steakhouses about every 100 ft. Why take a chance. Try Barbary Coast or Binions for constistantly great steaks with non-stratospheric prices.

Just so nobody gets confused, Barbary Coast == Bills. (Although the glass doors still have the *BC* logo)

Nobody's confused but he SAID Barbary Coast. In other words, for the finest traditional dining in Vegas he means Michael's. It WAS in Barbary Coast but it ain't in Bill's. It has been relocated to South Point.

Do not confuse a steakhouse with its casino. There is no correlation.

Here is their website:

http://www.southpointcasino.com/dining/michaels.php

My trip report from August 2007 so I hope not disgracefully out of date:

http://peachfront.diaryland.com/domperisorb.html

I suggest reading my review before your visit, because not only is the food excellent, it's a HUGE quantity of food and you need to know what you're getting into. You will want to have a room fridge or something so you can take back some of the goodness. Also, you will want to be warned NOT to order additional appetizers and/or desserts unless you are very confident that you can handle them on top of all the stuff that automatically "goes with."

I am still angry with myself for leaving the camera in the room so I have no photographs of these huge appetizer plates complete with quail eggs or huge dessert trays complete with every fruit there is....Bring your camera folks!

I used to live in Las Vegas, but left in 1998, so the information I'll provide here is admittedly outdated.

The Steakhouse (it was literally in the White Pages under "T" for "The" not in the Ss) at Circus Circus was a hidden gem. Even back then, the Circus Circus itself was horrible. The Steakhouse had a completely different feel from the CC casino you have to walk through--it's incredibly sedate. As you enter, you would walk past the on-premise meat locker where the beef was being dry aged (most people know about dry-aged beef now, but 15 years ago, it was an incredible rarity). The food was always great--delicious meat cooked perfectly, great sides, and great deserts.

I will also say that some of the best service I have ever had has been at The Steakhouse. They were consistently excellent. Not hovering, but somehow always there when you need them. Incredible bus staff in addition to the great wait staff.

The only bad part was walking back to your car through CC after dinner!

Yes, in the time since I've left, a number of high-end steak places have opened in Las Vegas, and yes, The Steakhouse could have gone downhill since I left. However, I had such consistently excellent experiences there that I would not hesitate to go back.

Also, be warned that the Circus Circus in Reno also has a restaurant called "The Steakhouse" which is a decent enough place, but is nowhere near the level of the one in Las Vegas, which is completely different.

Eaten here several times.
I really like this place. It offers a very good value in an otherwise overpriced market.
It is scary walking through Circus2 to get to it(use the rear valet-it is a little closer)but once you are inside it is like an old English mens club.
Service is great.
Prime Rib dinner(they do very good prime rib-which is what I usually order) for two people with salad and sides(included)and enough left over to feed another two people(I have never been able to finish it) for under $100-I have never had any complaints here.
By comparison The Porterhouse for two at Battallis Carne and Vino is $145 and everything is a la carte.

Just have to concur with what others have said regarding The Steakhouse. We were parched from air travel and just wanted a lot of water to go with our wine and the assistant waiter never let my glass get even half empty. When it came to our meal it was apparent the head waiter had been there a long time and I told him to bring me the steak he'd have if it was to be his last. The ribeye was extremely good.

The restaurant itself was great, but the walk in and out of CC is less than desirable to say the least.

As promised:

You were all correct the walk through the hotel is frightening ( in more ways then one!).
IMHO the Steakhouse was o.k. The decor needs updating and some higher wattage lighting. The service was also just o.k. Not very attentive.
The consensus was the food was good nothing out of the ordinary.
But the guests were happy ( could have been all the wine!)

I would not go back and would not recommend.

I am partial to Del Frisco's but I'm sure you'll get plenty of other opinions as well.

You don't have to go to the best steak house in Las Vegas to get a good steak in Las Vegas. There are probably about 100 places that are pretty good.

Off the strip and free of the hipper than thou Ghumbas that populate many of the high end steak houses(Del Frisco,N9Ne,craftsteak,Carne&Vino)is Envy at the Renaissance. It is as good as all of the above IMO with a much calmer atmosphere.Joey is my favorite server and you just could not get a nicer guy that is totally familliar with the menu.
While expensive-it is not as jaw droppingly expensive as the places listed above(Carne &Vino has a porterhouse for two at $145-and yes, that is just for the meat-everything else is a la carte)

If you are looking for great meat in a too cool for school setting might I suggest Botero at the Encore.Incredibly sexy setting and great steaks-at a price your credit card company will love(dinner for two-glass of decent wine each,$250)but will leave you with happy memories.
