The guy was a random passer by; it was not necessary from a news standpoint to enable him to be identified. An angle from the rear of the car would just as well have shown the "reality" of what is happening at Schiphol.

You could probably make a case that this is not, per se, a "news" photo at all.

And picture wise this doesn't compare to what was in the newspaper, amateur hour (to be blunt
).

Not sure what point you are trying to make - but there is always more than one perspective. You don't need to see actually see the random passer-by on the front page of a national newspaper to drive home the point that random passers-by are being stopped. Or to drive home any other point!

The "Streisand effect" really only applies to cases where there was no initial large publication of the offending item.
I can understand the guy's opinion - and his desire to draw attention to the fact that any negative assumptions the viewing public may have been invited to draw for themselves were totally inaccurate.
They could have photographed a taxi driver.

Or are they not stopped?

I can't.
Just like tens of thousands of others he was stopped and questioned. Perhaps they even searched his vehicle. He just happened to end up on the front page of the Volkskrant. So what?
In what way has this picture blackened his character, impugned his reputation or lowered his social standing?
A propensity for subjective victimhood is not very becoming. He should stop whinging and get a life.
And, by the way, if he hadn't whined, and you had not posted the picture here, I would never have known about this non-issue, and would never have formed a negative opinion of the guy. I congratulate him on shooting himself in the foot.
