KMAR adding extra security checks at AMS

Source: http://www.nu.nl/binnenland/4300277/...dom-schiphol-4

Short translation: Due to security threat the KMAR is performing additional checks today at Schiphol. Road access is limited and in the morning there were long lines of cars trying to get onto the airport grounds. This afternoon things seem to go a little more smooth.

Access by rail is, so far, not affected.

Be warned! This is one of the busiest travel weekends, waiting times and lines are extra long.

Just to be clear, this only affects road access. The measures have been extended until through tomorrow: http://nos.nl/artikel/2122298-veilig...kend-door.html

I just arrived at Schiphol at 5:30; took the bus witch comes in from the north (using its own tunnel). The regular access road was absolutely gridlocked for miles.

Even the (crappy Aspire) lounge opened 15 minutes late due to employees not being able to get there in time.

The airport was subject to long lines for checkin 1-12. Long, long lines for security. I thought I was at a US airport when I saw those lines. I was impressed at how civil it was kept and how the local staff did a great job. Unlike in the USA, no security or administrators were bullying or abusive. And unlike at Canadian airports, the security personnel were focused on their screening: No screwing around. I was also impressed by the low key behaviour of the heavily armed police. There was none of that police state aura one gets in some middle eastern or US airports. Having police walking around in paramilitary gear and with automatic long guns guns is still a foreign experience for Canadians, so as unsettling as the heavily armed police presence was, it was not threatening or of concern.
Even though it took me an hour or so to go through the process, I believe it was pretty good despite the hassles.

It's simply the busiest weekend of the year for travel - no surprise there are long queues.

The checks have been extended until further notice. To make matters worse, there will be no trains between Amsterdam Zuid and Schiphol starting tomorrow until August 9, and there are no trains between Amsterdam Centraal and Schiphol on Tuesday.

Xandrios, do you mean the buses that come in via the Loevesteinse Randweg (such as 197)? Just to be sure, I hope so...

Thanks!

Correct; passing the Schiphol Noord bus station. I always travel on line 247 as that one stops right in front of where I'm staying in Amsterdam, but it also uses de Loevesteinse Randweg.

Only the main access seems to be checked. The other route was wide open by car on monday. All the taxis also seem to take that one.

Good thing that criminals and other miscreants never travel by taxi cab, then.

Huge security for cars, just behind the main Schiphol junction. Zero security for cars entering through the alternative entry roads.

This has nothing to do with security.

I'm flying back to AMS tomorrow - perfectly timed with the outages on the railways

Are the extra security checks still in place? I suspect that the NS busses will be stuck in the line with all cars..

Security Checks AMS update

Now the checks are on the roads to the airport but i haven't been able to spot them. First it was the airport, now the diameter around it.
