DFW service

About a week and a half ago, NW announced they are starting LGA-DFW service starting in September. This will leave just US and B6 as the only major carriers in the New York area without direct service to DFW. However, US still provides a 1 stop connect to DFW. Is it just me or is B6 really missing out on this market?

I'm down in that area atleast once a year. I would love it if B6 would go there.

UA doesn't fly to DFW from LGA. and i wouldn't consider connecting in ORD "direct." AA has a pretty decent stranglehold on that route, so i wouldn't expect B6 to start that up anytime soon.

I wasn't really counting UA as a major NYC player. They have decent amount of flights in and out of the NYC area but nothing that would make any there stations here a hub or focus city.

If you look at the airlines who have major operations in NYC, B6 and US don't have that direct service. Here's the current scheduled service:

CO: EWR-DFW 6X daily
NW: LGA-DFW 3X daily starting in september
DL: JFK-DFW 3X daily
AA: LGA-DFW 10X daily
EWR-DFW 7X daily
JFK-DFW 2X daily

My whole point of my question is that NW found in their market research that there is enough demand to add in another 3 flights between the New York area and the DFW metroplex to an already seemingly saturated route(s). If NW saw this, why didn't JetBlue?

The only reason NW is starting LGA-DFW service is because AA is starting LGA-MSP service on the very same day. I highly doubt NW did research and figured out this would be a profitable route for them. Otherwise, why only now, on the very same day AA starts MSP service would NW start DFW service? This market seems to already be sAAturated which is why I doubt B6 would start service there anytime soon.

When you're losing money and trying to right the ship, the last thing you should do is take on the airline with the rep for killing competitors at DFW, its biggest hub; if B6 begins JFK-DFW, in a few weeks you might be reading another article like this one (with DFW replacing "PIT" throughout):

Everyone loves the lower fares at PIT, but not everyone abandons their frequent flyer miles and status to fly B6. Whatta surprise.

very well put. just look at DH at IAD. and UA has a decent operation in the NYC area. p.s., all the flights to ORD and DEN from LGA. and EWR is alright. B6 doesn't need to do JFK-DFW, when AA would probably match the fares from LGA. B6 doesn't really attack the major hubs. which is why i'd be shocked if they entered the MSP market.

B6 has entered the ORD market which obviously home to UA and AA. Also, they entered into CLT (a major hub of US) last year. I wouldn't say they entered it to attack UA or AA or US, but more so out of demand from their own passenger base. Same thing with DEN (UA) and SEA (AS) a few years back. With close to 30 flights a day on 4 carriers, they must be decent demand for the city pair (other than just mere connecting traffic).

And how can I forget, B6 is expanding service at SLC, a stragetic and major hub for DL.

i guess you have a point with ORD even though UA and AA beat each other to death there, and CLT. but i wouldn't consider SLC a "major" hub for DL.

Don't forget that B6 pulled out of ATL after just 6 months.

IMHO, DL killed B6 on the two routes out west merely out of name recognition. B6 had no name in ALT and they were just being introduced out on the West Coast. B6 would have been better off waiting to start the transcon routes out of ALT until they were able to start the JFK-ALT route (obviously it has been done yet). I think they are much better suited now to compete for viability in someone else's back yard than they were 5 years ago. Thus, them have service now to DEN, SEA, ORD, CLT, PIT, JFK, SFO, and BOS...all places that have major legecy operations.

Then again, they started their airline at one of AA's main airports.
