The higher 300 tails have the new wider screens. The 190s are scheduled for a refit but there is no time yet

Do you have any details on the refit? Will they be adding slimlines to add more seats as well, or simply replacements with newer seats with no capacity increase?

More seats on the E90s means another FA; seems unlikely to me. Especially given the announcement previously for the A320 and A321 retrofits and nothing announced for either new seats nor IFE changes on the E90s.

Just flew on 506JB and the cabin refresh can't come soon enough. Broken seats, broken tray tables, and the IFE was acting up on it. The only channels that worked were 13 and above.

Contact JetBlue through Facebook/Twitter if you were seated in one of the sub-par seats. They should give you a $15 travel credit for JetBlue

Does anyone know the status of the refresh? Someone had mentioned earlier that there probably won't be any during the summer busy season (which makes complete sense), but wondering if they've gotten any done beforehand? I think I saw somewhere that this wasn't getting started until fall. Is that true?

Looks like they won't be refreshing the A320 interiors until after they get the plumbing problems fixed

Bloomberg reports that Jetblue is holding off on deciding about its E190s:

JetBlue Airways Corp. has delayed a decision on updating its fleet of regional jets as it watches a brewing rivalry between Boeing Co. and Airbus SE to gain sway in the market for smaller planes. The carrier had hoped to decide by the end of last year whether to keep its 60 Embraer SA E190s. But an Airbus agreement to take control of Bombardiers C Series program and Boeing discussions about a possible deal with Embraer introduced too many unknowns, said JetBlue Chief Financial Officer Steve Priest.Itd be short-sighted of us to progress with something definitive in this landscape thats evolving, he said in an interview. If we leave money on the table because we rushed in during this changing landscape -- I dont want to get into a position where we regret any decision.JetBlue is debating whether to keep the 100-seat E190s or replace them with an updated version from Brazils Embraer The New York-based carrier might also switch to Bombardiers smaller C Series jet, or order lower-capacity planes from Airbus. In addition to the E190s, JetBlue operates 130 A320s and 53 A321s made by the French planemaker. The carrier also is still considering whether to buy a longer-range Airbus jet.The airline began a review of its fleet and aircraft investment plans early last year, assessing the profit margin produced by each plane and how it meets JetBlues needs. The evaluation dovetails with an effort to cut as much as $300 million from spending by 2020.

Late Stages

JetBlue had been in the latter stages of its E190 evaluation but hadnt made a decision, Priest said, when Airbus said it would acquire a majority stake in Bombardiers C Series program. The October agreement would provide Airbus with the Canadian companys 108-160 seat narrow body aircraft to compete with Boeings 737 workhorse. The deal added urgency to negotiations between Chicago-based Boeing and Brazils Embraer, according to a person familiar with the discussions.JetBlues fleet evaluation continues and the timing of a decision on the E190s will be linked to what happens in the market, Priest said. But I dont feel paralyzed or handcuffed by it, he said.JetBlue is also still evaluating whether to buy a new, longer-range Airbus jet, the A321 LR, Priest said. The aircraft would allow the carrier to fly across the Atlantic to Europe, expanding an international network that currently focuses on the Caribbean, Latin America and northern South America. JetBlue can decide on the A321LR at any time, although Airbus requires a two-year notice for delivery. If the airline wants the LR, it probably would convert some existing A321neo orders.

The A320 cabin refresh has officially begun.

  • This week (which was last week, week of Jan 21-27), the first A320 (Bravo Lima Uniform Echo - N646JB) has entered a partner facility in North Carolina for cabin refresh.
  • This plane will be the prototype for testing the new config.
  • Once the test plane passes testing, it will take 30 days for each subsequent refit.
  • The current A321 product is being installed on the first A320, which includes the Airbus/Zodiac Spaceflex lavs and galleys, with modifications to address customer and crewmember concerns regarding maneuverability and space. The next generation seats and IFE system will not be installed until later this year. (side note: It is unclear whether only N646JB will have the A321 product or if the first few will have them. Once they switch to the next gen seats and IFE, it's possible that they will have an inconsistent product on the A320s)
  • The refit involves a full refresh, which includes side wall replacement, overhead bin replacement, and lighting
  • JetBlue is planning to refit the older "classic" aircraft first, of which they have 101. (so the 500 and 600 series tails)
  • The A321neo which will debut in the coming years will have the next gen seat and IFE product installed at the factory

It appears that on Friday and again on Sunday, the prototype plane for the cabin refresh flew test flights out of GSO.

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N646JB

I'm hoping we're close and this can get moving -- the seats on the older A320s are increasingly in poor condition, even if I do appreciate their comfort.
