The A320 cabin refresh has officially begun.
- This week (which was last week, week of Jan 21-27), the first A320 (Bravo Lima Uniform Echo - N646JB) has entered a partner facility in North Carolina for cabin refresh.
- This plane will be the prototype for testing the new config.
- Once the test plane passes testing, it will take 30 days for each subsequent refit.
- The current A321 product is being installed on the first A320, which includes the Airbus/Zodiac Spaceflex lavs and galleys, with modifications to address customer and crewmember concerns regarding maneuverability and space. The next generation seats and IFE system will not be installed until later this year. (side note: It is unclear whether only N646JB will have the A321 product or if the first few will have them. Once they switch to the next gen seats and IFE, it's possible that they will have an inconsistent product on the A320s)
- The refit involves a full refresh, which includes side wall replacement, overhead bin replacement, and lighting
- JetBlue is planning to refit the older "classic" aircraft first, of which they have 101. (so the 500 and 600 series tails)
- The A321neo which will debut in the coming years will have the next gen seat and IFE product installed at the factory
