There are a good chunk of flights coming in early. So it will depend a bit on the order in which you come in. But usually it is more efficient than the reported situation in the afternoons.

Came in yesterday at around 7pm into T2. Immigration as a foreign resident was fine (about 10-15 minutes), but customs queues were bonkers. Highly recommend filling out the e-declaration in advance if you can (as those queues were far smaller in comparison).

Paper forms or VJW QR codes
Hi there, we are 3 people arriving at NRT on a Monday at 6:30pm. What are peoples more recent experiences with the paper forms when going through immigration and customs to get out of NRT airport? Is it faster with paper form or pre-register with QR codes? Thanks 🙏

Last couple of times, customs QR has clearly been faster. But I still make both paper and QR, just in case. As a resident I can't talk about immigration, my process is different.

Very difficult to predict. What time does your flight depart from HND? I assume that one is international, correct?

Both are international flights, I am only transiting in Japan. Will have plenty of time before my flight from HND. The reason asking for immigration time is because Im planning to book private airport transfer and the vendor wants to know approximately what time I need to get picked up. They only allow 30 minutes window for waiting, and after that they will charge extra for waiting. Do you think 1-1.5 hour after landing is enough?

I think that 1.5 hours would be the safe bet, though you'll probably get out sooner. On the other hand, have you considered limousine bus from NRT to HND? Bus stop is right outside the terminal. I imagine the cost is much less, but time would be similar.

Airport Limousine (airport-bus-alliance.com)
If you are not familiar with it the bus stops at clearly marked spots directly outside the terminal and you check your luggage at the bus stop. They will load it and unload at the correct stop. The ticket counters are along the wall inside the terminal as you exit Customs.

Data points. Plane touched down at 7:16, got through everything by 7:41 @ T2. No lines at all at immigration & custom. Supposedly 4 flights landed around the same time, got lucky because my flight landed the earliest (ETA 7:30).

Arrived Narita 2:45pm on Aug 8th and had the Customs and Immigration QR codes ready to go. Very short line at customs and none at immigration - through in 5-10 minutes!
What a great improvement from the old days!
