Indeed. A good reference here if you ever need to confirm whether it's real/fake Japanese whisky.

Nomunication has an article (a few actually) specifically about Matsui Shuzo:
https://www.nomunication.jp/2018/12/...hi-distillery/
https://www.nomunication.jp/2019/04/...at-sfwsc-2019/
I've never personally quaffed a Matsui dram, but there are basically two sides to this argument I think. One side believes that Japanese artisanry is about genuine, master-crafted goods that earns the appellation "Made in Japan". The other side believes that the only thing that matters is how the liquid tastes, and according to some, at least a few Matsui Shuzo bottles taste good, even if their provenance is suspect.
It's not really hard to find Matsui Shuzo products either in Japan or the US. I could post an image of shelves full of Tottori from Donki or Total Wine.

And here are a few uncommon sightings. Almost pulled the trigger on one or two of them.
Miyagikyo 2019 LE - ¥300,000 (rando liquor shop in Wakayama prefecture)
Hibiki 30 - ¥320,000 (undisclosed liquor shop in Kansai)
Taketsuru 25 - ¥180,000 (Liquor Mountain Ginza 777)
Hakushu 25 LE - ¥250,000 (FaSoLa preorder)
Tempting bottles!

Interesting comments about Kurayoshi. My dad picked up some Matsui Mizunara cask and quipped that it seemed ironic the label said distilled in Japan. Price was way cheaper than UK pricing. Which it was but should be a blunt reminder to anyone buying unknown fake bottles distilled in Scotland, canada or anywhere but japan.

My thought is no but there are also people who drink Hibiki 30 on ice, so to each their own
