Just to kick start a wiki, with answers to frequent questions.
1. We're flying HND-NGO-HNL. NGO-HNL is booked in business class, but HND-NGO is in economy. Will we still get the baggage allowance as if we're flying business class the whole way?
A: Yes. written here (link)
2. We're flying HND-NGO-HNL. Will we have lounge access in HND?
A. Definitely, within the lounge access rules of course. written here (link)

Hello all. First time flying JAL coming up this week. Here is my question:

I am flying HND-SFO on JAL in First Class then on to SEA on Alaska. All one ticket booked with Alaska miles. I have an 8 hour layover in SFO. Am I able to gain access to the JAL Lounge at SFO?

Does JAL go by Oneworld rules, or do they have their own?

JAL has a more generous same-day connection rule than oneworld, but then since it is not published they can change that at any time too

Yes, it's a same day connection (3 hour layover, late arrival in SIN). Thank you!

I want to book an award on JAL from China to NYC via Japan with a layover in Japan. I have a couple of questions. What cities in China does JAL have a first class cabin from/to Japan if any? I am not certain if I will use JAL on my way to China or if I will use it leaving China to head back to NYC. If I use JAL on my way to China and have a layover in Japan of four days and my onward flight is J (because the plane doesn't have F) will I still be able to use F lounge?

No F to China. No F lounge access with 4 days stopover. And this can't even be done on a single award ticket as JAL award tickets does not allow stopover in Japan.

You can't layover in Japan when you use JAL flight award (However, oneworld award permits stopover in Japan).
Japan has to be transit (less than 24 hours).

Unfortunately, no first class for Japan-China routes.

Hmm that sucks.

So if I book JAL using AA miles I can do the layover?

Just as a data point. I have booked a 5 day layover in Japan using Asia Miles when traveling from Asia to US.

Thanks again for the replies. An update on this one - I spoke to JAL today and they found availability on all three flights but said you had to return to the country of origin so the routing OSL to DXB (transit) to SYD (stopover) to DXB (destination) would have to be two separate award tickets.

I was hoping to ticket as one award for 100k miles in biz class.

I booked a JAL flight for HND-JFK but it leaves in the morning and there doesn't seem to be any direct flights to JFK from HND in the evening. When I explore new lounges I like to try out everything including some of the fancy alcohol etc. Would they even have that out in the morning? I never drink in the morning but if there is some high end stuff I have never had I may want to give it a try, but don't know if it would draw strange looks or not even be possible.
