What you would expect from a Holiday Inn but with a much nicer room than we normally have.

Crown Plaza Semarang Indonesia

What is your IHG Rewards Club status?
Gold Ambassador - hitting Platinum next stay

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes, stayed with family on cultural visit for 2 nights, hotel still in good fresh condition

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Club King Executive Suite, upon arrival was shown 2 suites on the 10th floor, 1 with street view of Pemuda street (some minor noise) and 1 of the roundabout in front of the hotel. Chose the Pemuda street view to see the world go by (catches midday sun but housekeeping is pro-active by closing the curtains)

How are the rooms?
Small hallway, seperate toilet, living room with 2 big seats, sofa, coffee table, flat screen tv, illy coffee machine, kettle, sliding door to seperate from bedroom. Bedroom with chaisse longue, desk, flat screen tv, 2 big closets, ipod alarm clock. Bathroom with slippers, robe, house toiletries, seperate bath, shower, 2nd toilet.

How is the exec. lounge?
breakfast has the same spread as main restaurant only on smaller scale with some more luxury items, hors d'ouvres are local and western tidbits, drinks are being served pro-activly but also able to self serve, has tables for working / eating, sofas for lounging, a meetingroom fully equiped, own toilet, local/international newspapers, computers and free printing. Furniture in good shape, staff fluent in at least english, indonesian, high/middle javanese and dutch

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Personally welcomed by duty manager and later by general manager, welcomed as IHG member, housekeeping fast with additional requests, public areas are clean and smart, 7th floor gym has water, towels, hygienic wipes and good equipment, swimming pool decent size with views on Pemuda street.

Main restaurant has good breakfast with western, javanese, indonesian delights, jamu herbal drinks, chinese dimsum, bread and pastries, cook to order soups and egg station, servers good at clearing plates with actively offering coffee refills.

Location next to Paragon shopping mall, just from hotel exit turn left 1minute walk. Has foodcourt, restaurants, starbucks, breadtalk, jco donuts, l'occitane, addidas, polo ralph lauren, 2 pharmacies and a big hypermarché for those that want to selfcater.

Ghosthouse Lawang Sewu 10minute walk down the street, 10minute drive to Dutch colonial architecture in the old town.

Parking at the hotel costs 50.000 IDR, the lobby has free cold water, public on weekdays consists of mostly business men and wealthy upper class chinese ladies judging by the language, hairdoos and classic brand bags. Peacefull business ambience throughout the hotel.

Floors can only be reached by key activation on elevators

Only bad: hotel has no refreshing rooms for personal chauffeurs/drivers so keep that in mind

Conclusion: paid 4.7million IDR about 275eur for 3persons for 2nights and it is good value

HI Madrid - Piramides

What is your Priority Club status?
Spire

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes, very.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Standard room, rec'd executive king suite on high floor

How are the rooms?
Suite was good-sized. Separate bedroom, couch/lounge room, bathroom, and mirrored hallway between bedroom and another hallway into the lounge room. Small balcony with nice view of Piramides. Decor a little dated, and the bathroom door had a weird placement that made it somewhat awkward to move around in, but overall a nice upgrade.

How is the exec. lounge?
NA

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Really friendly night manager.
Bad:
Weird smell (stale smoke?) in the hallways.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Value right on the money. Not good but not bad either. Would return.

CP Athens City Centre

CP Athens City Centre

What is your Priority Club status?
Gold

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Club room on adv. rate and received that, along with a choice of 400 pts or a bar voucher

How are the rooms?
The rooms are quite large, especially the corner rooms (almost unnecessarily so), all (except one) club rooms have a small balcony and the bathroom is equally large with separate bathtub and walk-in shower. The decor may not suit everybody's taste and it's showing a little bit of wear and tear. All usual amenities are provided (bathrobes, slippers, coffee/tea, bottled water etc.) and there's hardly anything to complain about.

How is the exec. lounge?
A bit on the small side with a large balcony looking towards Lycabetus hill, providing 24/7 keycard access and beer/wine/softs. Between 6pm and 9pm, an open bar (average quality branded drinks) is provided, but the 9pm deadline doesn't seem to be "enforced". Every hotel guest is entitled to bring one additional guest into the (unsupervised) lounge. Club guests receive their breakfast in the main restaurant.

What was good and what was bad?
Good
Well, actually there's not much to complain about, so everything was actually quite good
Bad
Well, despite the hotel's relatively young age (about 5 years now), there's some wear showing here and there. Also, the breakfast is quite average.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Well, this hotel is a bit on the expensive side (around 200 EUR per night for a club room), but you'll receive quite some value for it. Anyway, this is one of the better CP properties out there, I have returned and definitely will in the future.

Crowne Plaza Gatwick Airport

Crowne Plaza Gatwick Airport

What is your IHG Rewards Club status?
Spire

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a double upgraded to club room (no lounge access)

How are the rooms?
Very nice, in a seperate quite section of the hotel , big bed , 42" freeview SD , BOSE sound system , bathroom has a shower and bath.

How is the exec. lounge?
No access. I asked at check-in , Spire doesnt get the upgrade but Spire and Platinum Ambassadors do . I didnt find out if Ambassadors and Gold Ambassadors do though

What was good and what was bad?
Good: having a room that is away from the rest of the hotel , 600 points or free beer and crisps offered at check-in

Bad:
No upgrade, TV is only standard definition , its not actually at the airport

Value for $ or IHG Rewards Club Points? Would you return?
Paid around £50 for an advance purchase rate , would return again for this.

Anyone travelling from the airport might be interested in checking out the number 10 bus , it takes 10 minutes to a stop just a couple of minutes away and costs £2.30 single.

Very interesting position of the hotel, given that the Ambassador programme in principle is for Intercontinental only.

Especially that they value the official highest tier at a CP, Spire, lower than Ambassador.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard room w/ points, rec'd junior suite on top floor (view of plaza)

How are the rooms?
Pretty swank. I caught a glimpse inside some of the standard guestrooms and they've clearly been just recently updated. The junior suite looked a little more...decadent, but still very nicely done. Suite had separate WC and shower, dual sinks, and a little makeup/mirror bench for my wife. Living room w/ couch and 2x chairs/coffeetable, TV, Nespresso machine. Bedroom had 2nd TV.

How is the exec. lounge?
Didn't use.

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Got upgraded to the biggest room on the highest floor. Pool was nice and deserted at 7am, great for an early-morning swim. Greeted as Spire, 20% off restaurant voucher. Reception answered the phone by name and in my native language (impressive, that). Restaurant was great.

Bad:
Nothing sticks out. City had a "car free" Sunday so we couldn't leave until 6pm, but that wasn't the hotel's fault.

Value for $ or IHG Rewards Club Points? Would you return?
30,000 pts/night for 2 nights - would totally return considering their standard rate.

While it's always nice to hear what a lounge is like, I reckon most would like to know whether or not you were offered access when staying on points.

It wasn't offered, and I didn't ask since I had no plans to use it.

Crowne Plaza Dead Sea Resort and Spa, Jordan

What is your IHG Rewards Club status?
Platinum

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes, very.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard room w/ points, upgraded to an executive suite

How are the rooms?
Awesome. Had a living area with kitchenette, half bathroom, and balcony. Master bedroom had a full bath with second balcony and views of the dead sea.

How is the exec. lounge?
Wasn't given access

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Generous room upgrade. Separate check-in area for Gold, Platinum, and Spire members. Free access to the spa (normally 25 JOD). Discount on spa treatments. Asked for 2 PM late check-out, they gave me until 5 PM. Resort itself had six pools (including the spa), five restaurants, and access to the dead sea. Staff was very friendly and I was thanked countless time for my loyalty. Lunch and Dinner buffets were great.

Bad:
Lounge access would have been nice considering the food was expensive.

Value for $ or IHG Rewards Club Points? Would you return?
20,000 pts/night for 1 night - ended up with the best room in the resort. Out of pocket expenses were high considering that the Jordanian Dinar is 1.4 USD. Probably won't be the area again any time soon but would recommend.
