It's most often not available and you have to pay for the Best Available Rate in the end.

That BOGOF is quite intesresting because the AMB one can be used with ANY rate where this one is more restricted. I would probably just book two reservations and notate the other one that I would use this cert.

IMHO the website clearly states that:

10% Off Best Available Rates
Receive 10% off Best Flexible rate (fully flexible, rate of the day), 5 Day Advance Booking rate and 14 Day Advance Purchase rate. This benefit is available 7 days per week, subject to availability and rate rules.

Getting the 10% off should not be a problem. You may have to "fight" with the hotel at the end, however.

I might purchase this if I decide to tour Australasia later this year.

I'm in the same boat, so I don;t actually have the certificates yet, but doesn;t stop me planning ;)

I received my kit today, so about 5 weeks between signing up and getting the kit in my case.

my brother inlaw tried to use the $50 voucher recently on a stay get Gold Coast CP which was on the $130/night cert... he was politely informed the $50 cert can't be used as the stay was already discounted.

Yes, it is in the t's and c's of the $50 certificate. One thing I found when I used mine is that they seem to need to apply it to a particular charge, and they split the charge into $50 and the rest. It does seem that some charges can't be split, and I would guess that the $130/night cert is one of these.

Sydfly Apr 9, 2006 7:04 pm

I was actually wondering how they are processing these $50 vouchers. I thought they simply deduct $50 off your total bill at the end and maybe show that you paid part of your stay with this voucher. Is this not how they do it? Do you remember what it actually said on your invoice after the $50 voucher was applied? So, e.g. if you had a $200 room charge, would they only show $150 for that night as a charge?

I too thought that they would simply put a $50 credit onto the bill. They reduced one of the items on the bill by $50. Can't remember which it was but a $54 charge was itemised as $4 on my bill. I guess if they had applied it to the room charge it would appear something like you had said. In my case, I was on a 'weekend special', and apparently they can't split $50 off from such a package.

Sydfly Apr 10, 2006 12:41 am

So, essentially you have no point of showing the actual cost of the item they reduced by $50, right? What happens to the points posting for this charge? If they change the accomodation charge, will you only get points for the reduced amount? I'm also wondering how this would work for expense claims if the actual charge is not shown on the invoice

Well, I probably wouldn;t use it on a business stay, but my in essence my entire bill got reduced by $50, and so the expense does not show. I would have expected to see something like a $50 credit, but certainly at the CP Mel, that is not how it was processed.

Sydfly Apr 10, 2006 4:24 am

Thanks again for checking this...so, essentially we'll miss out on about 500 PC points (as a Plat I generally calculate 10 points per A$) but save $50...will give it a try next week...

perthite Apr 10, 2006 5:35 am

That pretty much sums up what happened to me.

Hi all

I was thinking about joining the privilege in Aus, and had a few queries after reading this thread around how easily accepted the 25% and BOGOF vouchers are as well as the 10% off flex or advance rate and $50 cert, so was looking for an update based on more recent experiences.

Is there seriously restricted usage of them - I would be looking at using the BOGOF at the IC Sydney (not nec on a weekend) - not too sure on the 25% certs but maybe for a one night stays on a Sat.

Any updates based on recent experiences welcome!

Hi, the 25% off and 10% off Best Flex are generally quite easy to use. I gave up on using the 10% off Advance purchase because I could not find availability when I needed it. So, don't count on those. The BOGOF cert is not as easy as the others but I think that IC Syd is very flexible with theirs. Just be careful because this BOGOF cert is only valid for the Best Flex rate unlike the one that you get with your RA or AMB membership (can be used on any rate). But on the other hand the advantage is that you can use it during the week which I have done.

I'd agree with the sentiments expressed by Sydfly, though I've had decent luck with the 10% Advance Purchase rates. They also have other promos from time to time, for instance recently there was an email with the following deals for Sydney over summer:

Exclusive Member Rates
  • Crowne Plaza Darling Harbour from $187
  • Crowne Plaza Parramatta from $95
  • Crowne Plaza Norwest from $116*
  • Holiday Inn Potts Point Sydney from $126
  • Holiday Inn Sydney Airport from $118
  • Old Sydney Holiday Inn from $139

Not available at those rates every day, but still some nice discounts. All pretty easy to book through the Priority Privilege website too (puts the appropriate ratecode in on the PriorityClub website, so links in smoothly).

Mr_Bigglesworth Nov 26, 2007 4:52 pm

Thanks for the advice.

Should anyone be looking at this or renewing this, Sydfly pointed out to me that there is a promotion in the unwind magazine - also posted earlier in this thread, and the current discount is $11.

Also, using the power of google, stubled across another affiliate link which gives 10% off (so $27 off) - but not sure if posting affiliate links are ok here - so I won't post it, but it can be located on a google search. (Should a mod say its fine then I'll post.)

Finally you can also include details of an existing member when you sign up over the phone and that referring member gets a voucher for a bottle of wine at dinner I believe.
