Kimpton de Witt - Parking garage - MAY 2023

Disclaimer: i have never used the Kimpton de Witt's parking garage.

It is located next to the hotel 's front entrance at :
Nieuwezijds Armsteeg 5, 1012 MB Amsterdam

It is not in any way directly connected to the hotel, you must cross the outdoor alley to reach it

Best is to email the hotel in advance how it works and at what cost / in&out privileges / valet etc...

Anyway this is what i observed :

Of all the options being displayed at the garage door are:

Entrance at : Nieuwezijds Armsteeg 5, 1012 MB Amsterdam

One of options for access : Mobypark

Second of the options for access : Vicky

Third of the options for access : ParkBee

Best to email the hotel about the exact details & procedures

Taco Tuesday at restaurant Celia

Normally in Amsterdam one can stop by at the KitKatClub / SnaXXX or having a puffy vape or 420 from the Bulldog....
But in this case with the theme of the songfestival, we decided on an easy light dinner at the hotel.

We took advantage of the Taco Tuesday offer, a comfy choice for mum as she had to mentally prepare for the songfestival.

So what's this Taco Tuesday offer?
See below

Taco Tuesday offer : choose 2 tacos + a side

Ahh... with an impressive side walk café table view ...
Warmly indoors....
Mum is happy....
The kids are studying....
S/O promised to do the hoovering at home
The food is tasty and the drink has a nice kick to it....

Life is good!

Taco: Shrimp Ceviche & Taco: BBQ Chicken + Taquitos

Mum made the same taco choices but had a side of the sweet potato

Even though it was Taco Tuesday,
Vincent still presented us with the Inner Circle benefit of the complimentary Chef's taste:
(it alternates)

FRIED CALAMARI Lemon Aioli, Padron Peppers..............
Not oilly or soggy at all

And at the hotel/restaurant one can easily converse in English with the staff

The friendly Italian server
this is btw your average Tuesday in beginning of May during the holidays

We opted for sonething extra

BEEF BRISKET 350 GRAMS Tamarind Jus..............................42.0

And a big shout out of praise for restaurant Celia's dinner & breakfast chefs de cuisine:
Barbara & Oleksi & Massinal

All the food you guys+gal made was tasty:
See below kitchen team in action

The restaurant is still managed by Vincent and is now having calm and attentive Jos supervising on those days that Vincent is off

Ofcourse a little sweet note to get a sugary boost before the songfestival

66% CHOCOLATE MOUSSE Caramel, Sea Salt........................10.0

Map of the hotel : certain roomtypes

And now an indepth analysis of the hotel building : it is quite a complex lay out .

To start with the room types:
- calling Atacama40 for gound support -
https://www.kimptondewitthotel.com/e...-hotel-suites/
and
https://www.kimptondewitthotel.com/e...l-guest-rooms/

Orange line: outline of the hotel building
(parking garage is seperate from the hotel)

Light Blue Circles : Junior Suites (no balcony / terrace)

Green Circle: Terrace of {Penthouse de Witt}
(white box next to it is the physical structure of the penthouse)

Purple Circle : {The little house} - home of Dutch writer P.C.Hooft
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pieter_Corneliszoon_Hooft
(now: duplex two bedroom suited for family & friends)

Yellow Circle: terrace of room #606 {KING premium terrace} (review next post)

To the left and right of it
Red Circle : terrace of room #603 & #615 {KING premium terrace}

Blue circle : terrace of room #620 {KING premium terrace} (review next next next post)

------
Calling grand wiseman Atacama40 your infinite wisdom on
Red Circle 62 (utter right) : room number / room type ?

The hotel also lists https://www.kimptondewitthotel.com/e...l-guest-rooms/

King Bed Essential with Balcony

I can't place this room type, any enlighting ideas?

Room #606 KING premium terrace

Located on level 6, it faces south
I found this room a very nice alternative to the Penthouse de Witt
Why?
Room #606 is enclosed on both sides by its own terrace and by another room's terrace.
So no worries about noise and such ... Brandon or Stefan was wise to allocate me this room ..
. especially with the accoustic onslaught of the Eurovision Songfestival..
.. we don't want fellow hotel guests thinking a siren went off .... or a chicken was being butchered ...,

So let's have a look

From the carpeted corridor
- the light is streaming in from an alcove that's next to the room terrace

Hotel corridor to room #606

Floorplan of this part of the hotel
As you see room #606 is quite insulated from noise because it is surrounded on both sides by a terrace

Let's go inside

Entry into the room greets you with lots of natural light...
Yes i do own the classic ....
The one that bounces back nimbly after you throw it out of your 5th floor window to the waiting trampoline below,
It has survived earthquakes, volcanos, feisty bag handlers, the Tube during rush hour, mount gale and tempest....

not the LVMH DIOR x RIMOWA monstrosity ....

https://www.lvmh.com/news-documents/...on-and-travel/
Type in youtube: dior + rimowa and be prepared to receive an onslaught in bombastic superlative consumerism

Left of the entrance is an open wardrobe

Directly left is the closet , it holds:
- iron + board
- Kimpton's signature yoga mat
- Kettle
- Nespresso capsule machine with orginal Nespresso capsules
- Laundry bag
- robes + slippers

Empty fridge to store your own drinks / the cartons of water are daily replenished

right of the entrance is the standard type bathroom

Bathroom has limited counter space
ninjalad : the bar of soap is still being offered here !

Overhead + handheld shower : good pressure no hot/cold yoyoing
Amenities are Marie Stella Maris : Objets d'Amsterdam

Items upon request

Living area

Looking at living area from bedroom : 4 large windows

Housekeeping is daily provided by friendly ladies from Ukraîne

True KING bed

Looking onto the terrace, note the small treshold

TV can be swirled for viewing from bed and sofa

Blackout curtain rolls :::
so one doesn't go poof.. in the morning light like Dracula Unleashed

View from bed onto the terrace

Terrace views south

Night time view : large building on the left has nightly parties judging by the neon disco light observed

Sturdy seats with cushions..... warning do not go au naturel, in your birthday suit or as Venus unadorned because ....

On the hotel's room corridor one can find these alcoves ....that are located next to your terrace area

Standing on tip toe on the small black ledge or even brazen to stand on the sofa

Oh.l didn't quite see you there .....

One might think this is an oversight but it is not....
As this is Amsterdam, other hotels have had encounters with hens / stags parties gone haywire
or even.......
some foreign visitors think shrooms are the gateway to flying and end up on the other side ......

Looking from terrace to living area
Balcony has a door stopper so no need to worry the balcony door gets blasted out of its hinges due to a freak wind

Inner Circle elite recognition

I do love what i call a good spot of tea

The beers are always appreciated by S/O.....
Now better appreciated by me to make the Eurovision Songfestival any bearable ....

The TV has an extensive selection of pay-per-view movies

Every genre can be found and ehh.... every enticing taste too....

No direct youtube on TV

But one can connect own personal devices and stream on ...

Radio channels

Turndown service
This is offered standard every evening,
Dustbins are emptied, fresh towels restocked, blinds closed, bed tidied and a carton of water placed bedside

And the views at night ....,

The party goes on and on .......

Slightly off topic - only for veterans

But as a thank you initiative for my good friend Atacama40 for his help
this was the orginal 2nd incarnation of those terrace rooms when the Kimpton de Witt was still the Crowne Plaza Amsterdam City Center

A peek in the past ....

A remarkable transformation indeed

At Sinterklaas 5 Dec with a chocolate letter ..
I won't blame you if your eye fell first on the god awfully Laura Ashley knock off floral spread

classic bathroom
Aka restoration of spirit ....

Yes those were the days my friend......

Room #620 KING premium terrace

This room is located on level 6 and faces west and the busier road of Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal.
That's the street where the tram runs, for some light sleepers it might be wise to email in advance to be allocated a different location room.

I actually like this room too but i am quite jaded as this room shares the same view and vista as the Penthouse de Witt.
So for sheer space that one is still the best if you prefer views on the west.

So let's have a look at room #620

Wolf is the doorknocker for #620

Lay out of this part of the building
Room location

View on the entrance taken from the sleeping area
Left is the living area

Right of the entrance, the open wardrobe

Directly right of the entrance is the closet: all items were there

View from the entance:
we celebrated a milestone birthday
(i emailed the hotel to let them know in advance)

Lovely birthday touch : most appreciated

Left of the entrance is the bathroom

Comes with handheld + overhead shower

Same bulk tamperproof amenities by Marie Stella Maris : objets d'Amsterdam

Items available upon request

Look from the bed into the living area

The living area has the desk and door to the terrace

It also features the sofa:
unfortunately one can only watch TV from the bed and not from the sofa ,
otherwise it would be perfect if one wants to rest and the other wants to watch TV

Look from the sofa into the bedroom

Be carfeful : bit high treshold and might be slipper when wet

A comfy seating nook

With views towards south :
magna plaza + royal palace

The empty beer bottle wasn't mine but i desposed it outside right away :
we dont want history repeating Roman Law with the flower pot evictio
: https://nl-m-wikipedia-org.translate...n&_x_tr_pto=sc

In my previous life i used to be a lawyer,
but after seeing Ally McBeal
(single, 30, neurotic and skinny that cupido can't hit her with a love arrow)
i decided to do a career switch into geology

And a peek from the terrace to see how the house fronts are secured

Look from the terrace back into the living area

Just a warning :
about your terrace on room #620
don't brag or moan to loud.....
or in any case sit au naturel / in your birthday suit / or as Venus unadorned ...
because the terrace of the Penthouse de Witt is right above you
.... unless you want them to join in ....
but i digress...

As an illustration

view from the tramstop NieuweZijdse Kolk towards the hotel's front entrance

The blue arrow shows the location of the terrace of room #620
The green arrow shows the terrace of the penthouse de witt

State of street surfacing MAY 2023 NieuweZijds Voorburgwal

As to inform you and show you the progess of the state of the Nieuwe Zijds Voorburg wal road in front of the hotel.

The tramway is in use again.
Cars / Taxis may use this to reach their destination.
The parallel secundairy road is still being resurfaced.

So no reason to worry as you can now fortunately easily reach the hotel front entrance with suitcases.

the lower blue flag marks the entrance to the hotel, as you can see the taxi can pull up in front

Looking towards the south

Looking at Hekelveld / Nieuwe Zijdse Kolk / Spuistraat junction

And that concludes a perspective look on some of the hotel's KING premium with terrace rooms.
Surprisingly information is a bit scarse and sparse on this room type so i thought it better to inform the community here first .
And remember if you see this info anywhere else, you read it here first

Hope this will help all future stayers and provide some illumination on uncertainties.
To add those on the Viking Cruise : G-d speed ahead!

This might be off-topic,

But i post it here for reference's sake,
There are visitors with a specific goal and mindset....
And besides that,
good to be informed to dodge a fine

I remember noticing that the door knockers were all different... it was interesting for me and the missus to play spot the animal on each door while walking to the room..:-)

Yes, pretty nice to see they manage to have half a zoo in diversity...
Also a good marker if you can't find your room back after an "Amsterdam" night out

Hades sir, apois, still not fully back on line yet (chaotic times but will be back soon) .... but can you believe, 606 was indeed my weekly stop and 90% reserved room! I kid you not. Except when the IBC was on at the RAI and then even us 'cash cows' got very gently but politely .... booted out! I remember having to stay (get this) at Zandvoort one year when it was on!

Did you used to get those 'free drink' vouchers for the bar? I literally have a pile here of them in a rubber band at least 50mm thick! If they we were still valid we could have quite the night out

Nice room 606 was. Not as well finished as your photos show but a nice room all the same. And interesting fact (you will likely know already) but my 'other room' 601 at the end of that corridor, a very senior Israeli leader used to stop in. His security detail would take near the entire floor. Another time RA status still got me booted out but not so frequent And also BB King used to stop there as he preferred to cook for himself rather than go out and of course it has the kitchen area and big dinning area.

Final fun fact for today .... the 620 room you reviewed, used to be kept somewhat off the books as the GM there liked to keep it for himself. I had it a couple of times, very nice too. But you could see and hear the slightly overly alcohol preserved/pickled Brits, Danes and Dutchy's up on the CL balcony in the Summer .... now as you mentioned, the penthouse now

Fine days. Will be back to normal engagement fairly soon.

Construction outside the hotel are still ongoing with some noise to be expected daytime. Completely bearable now that the 2/12/13 tram stops just outside the hotel.

Don't expect a suite upgrade here. Nice staff at check in tried to up sell a junior suite at an additional 200 a night. Lots of US-based Diamonds from the cruise ships stay here.

Remember to use your Kimpton password! I scored two free lovely cocktails off the menu at Celia - perfect on a hot Amsterdam summer.

No shade

Atacama40 : all is forgiven provided you score us an extra round at IC Parklane's Club happy hour before last orders this september.
I fully understand you present situation so please take you time.
Am already glad you haven't lost your sense of humor

Thank you for your perspective on the "KING terrace rooms"
It's amazing that there is quite a bit of history attached to them, thanks for sharing your insights.
I think honestly the terrace is worth aiming for, it does provide a nice extension and fresh air.
And if B.B. stayed here than it is worth a pelgrimage

I unfortunately did not have the sheer luck like you had in CP-times.
Especially with room allocation and acquiring stack of drink vouchers.....
I do remember fondly at the old bar:
Me: "Are you chatting me up?"
- Well is it your place or my place ?-
Me: "You go to your place & i go to my place!"

Alawyer : glad you are having a good start with your stay....
"Cheers - Prøst - ChinChin - Salute - VanDenFrisse"
i wouldn't recommend not using < No Shades > as this hotel always goes the extra mile to delight

an interesting observation about the amount of American cruiseship passengers with IHG-Diamond,
i was under the impression that 3rd party hotel group bookings via CruiseLines (Viking/Celebrity/HollandAmerica/Amadeus/Avalon/Tauck etc.) negated IHG-status benefits. I think UniWorld Cruises was the only one that allowed to stack hotel elite status on the group rate hotel bookings.
It could have all changed by now because of the strong postpandemic travel demand and the negotiations between Viking Cruises dumping the Marriott Corp: Renaissance hotel as prefered partner for the IHG's Kimpton instead.

glad you find the use of tram now much easier, it does open up a lot of possibilities

now that you reconfirmed the jolly cruiseship crowds,
i can sway demue and his Mrs. to return back to Amsterdam to stay at the Kimpton and start their grand tour

about the subject of the €200 upsell to the jr. suite.....
i honestly scratch my head why did they splice the old "Amsterdam Heritage" building suite into 2 seperate ones .... ?
honestly they could get more interest bookings if they kept it as the orginal "honeymoon suite"
and upgrade it with putting in a big bath jaccuzi..... as USP

as one might be aware:
bubbles hide a multitude of sins,
and honeymooners prefer to be all shacked up, being busy with having a nookie
so they are actualky the target market that would happily pay for the €200 (jr.) suite uosell
