What points count towards status?
"Base points earned from Qualifying Rates paid for hotel stays, points collected from partner transactions, IHG® Rewards Club Bonus Points Packages and Meeting Rewards are considered Elite Qualifying Points and counted towards membership elite status."
What activity resets the one-year point expiration clock (i.e., prevents points from expiring)?
"Base points earned from Qualifying Rates paid for hotel stays, points collected from partner transactions, IHG® Rewards Club Bonus Points Packages and Meeting Rewards are considered Elite Qualifying Points and counted towards membership elite status."
- The bonus points received for the credit card sign-up are nonqualifying towards status.
- Points from credit card spend are qualifying points and will count toward a member's status qualification.

By removing the day from the communication and not telling to anybody until July, they look incompetent and seems that they are not acting in good faith, even if it was an honest mistake (which personally I don't believe) they should notify it.
Now the discussion shifted to a bad publicity, is about their incompetence, they lack on information, people that believe they are losing promised benefits since July 1.
In some cases they losing the customers that went out of their way in the last months.

If you count with the "Knight Tyme" for my super Spectrum 128K then yes...
If I'm unhappy I change, I don't care about bonus or otherwise.
I had a really bad experience at Hilton CPH in 2010, arrive at hotel around 3.30am, they had my AMEX on reservation so they charge me with a room as no show and they didn't give me a room because they were sold out and they give my room to someone else.
I end up sleeping at CP CPH.
Made a complain, got a mail that almost call me stupid, apperently I should know if you don't inform in the reservation that you going to arrive after 1am they can charge you with a no show.
I learned that to stay at hilton I need to foreseen the future and realise that my 10 hours flight will get late so I can inform the hotel.
They return me the money with a note that due to my status (was top tier) they will refund...
Never more in the hilton, with exception to this Jan. United place me at hilton because my flight from MEX was diverted to HOU due to storm in ORD.
Another "Next Best thing in the world"
I got the surface pro 3 and I'm quite excited to try the Win 10 on it.
Until there I continue to using my Apple because the Win8 is worst that what I thought ...
Love the surface (bit heavy) but the OS is the worst s... (anyway, I'm moving of topic, better to stop writing)

Just as all of their promos have start/stop dates flagged in their points-giving system, why can't a "simple" batch update of points retroactive to July 1 solve much of this? Status may or may not show up in our July stays, but the places I go mostly give me their best available already.

Spectrum 128k...ok now at least I understand we are the same age group
Have to say I like your analysis and is cool to vote with your feet. It's the only thing that changes anything. There are not so many examples of that sort of people/consumer power but those that have gone by have been compelling. You certainly have commitment and in the example you quote, I also would walk.
No seriously it's a fair point, there is a tendency to accept mediocrity and sometimes a line should be drawn. I still think most of us will be unlikely to significantly modify our behavior. Not whilst we still get free mini-bar and upgrades...you get my point?
I am going to cancel my MS VLA agreement btw

Not a big fan of MS OS but if you have manage a company the Volume License may be important, most users are quite used to MS office suite and MS OS, also many useful apps are dependent on MS OS.
Personally I only use MS OS for run the VS and SLQ, the surface I got it to run these apps and also use it like a tablet when traveling (it's cool to have outlook on the tablet)
I'm becoming quite big fan of notes with the pen, don't use paper anymore.

To all the guys who blame IHG for making a mistake: YOU are totally wrong! You just don’t see the greatness and brilliancy of IHG. First I didn’t see the greatness and brilliancy of IHG either. But now I understand.
The “July 1 mistake” wasn’t a mistake. It’s all about a new privilege of the new tier level. A new privilege that is more “wow” than all buzz words used at an event to present new apple products. This new privilege is so super wow, that IHG can’t pronounce it like a normal press release. No, IHG wants us to experience the absolute greatness of this new privilege.
Now you want to know: What is that new privilege? OK, IHG pretends to make a mistake. But as we all now, IHG is perfect and never does mistakes. So, the “July 1 mistake” was obviously on purpose. Why did IHG make a mistake on purpose? Because IHG wants us to show how it feels if the business partner doesn’t keep a promise. Yes, we all felt disappointed and sad, because IHG didn’t keep their “July 1” promise. We lost points. We suffered.
Why did they want us to experience how it feels if the business partner doesn’t keep a promise? Because THAT’S the new feature for the new IHG top tier status. IHG wants to show us how IHG will suffer and pay for us in the future. This new feature is called:
“Your mistakes are on us!”
Similar to IHG’s “July 1 mistake”, from July 10 on IHG will accept all our mistakes. IHG will suffer and pay for them! Of course, “our mistakes” means the mistakes of everybody with the new IHG top tier status. Nobody wants to suffer and pay for the mistakes of club, gold or platinum members.
"Your mistakes are on us!" Let’s see some examples:
Of course that are only five examples for mistakes. The world of mistakes is endless. And of course you can combine two, three or more mistakes in one booking! And you can repeat them again and again and again! That means there are endless squared possibilities to make mistakes – and IHG will suffer and pay for all of them!
Thank you, IHG! You are the best company in the world! Really!

- if you make the mistake to forget to cancel a booking, you don’t have to pay a no-show fee, if you say afterwards, that it was by mistake
- if you make the mistake to book a prepaid rate without the option to cancel it for free, you can cancel it at every time and get your money back, if you say afterwards, that it was by mistake
- if you make the mistake to think, a room, rate is 300 US Cent instead of 300 US Dollars, you can reduce the bill to 300 US cent per night, if you say afterwards, that it was by mistake
- if you make the mistake to think, that “standard room” means “presidential suite”, you will get an upgrade to the presidential suite without additional costs, if you say afterwards, that it was by mistake
- if you make the mistake to think, that the Holiday Inn in Dusseldorf-Neuss/Germany is an Intercontinental and that it is located near the Times Square/Manhattan, your booking of the Holiday Inn will accepted in the IC New York at the same rate, if you say afterwards, that it was by mistake
Of course that are only five examples for mistakes. The world of mistakes is endless. And of course you can combine two, three or more mistakes in one booking!
