Hi all. I already have traveled the world but still a newbie with the miles gig.
Just back from Rio de Janeiro in UA Business 1st and the lie flat seat got me hooked on luxury aviation. I have the Suntrust Delta Debit and I am racking up about 5k pts per month. I'm also gunning for elite status on either UA or AA this year, as well as learning how to book mileage runs (still very clueless how to make advanced bookings and fare classes). I want to do the Aegean trick, and also move my AMEX Plat pts to Krisflyer for a suites flight JFK-FRA this summer (got the miles, JFK-FRA is always waitlisted till 2 days out). I just signed up for the KVS Search tool and and looking for to take an award flight this upcoming 3day weekend to somewhere warm (good luck w that ;) So, yeah, I've got some plans. I'm based in the Washington, DC area and am kind of feeling United for elite due to IAD hub, but AA/US merger could make DCA more important. Anyways, I know I've got a lot of homework to do, I'm hoping I can find the newbie material I need so I can quickly get to cruising altitude. Looking forward to interacting with you all! |

Hey everyone! I'm new here.
Frequent Delta & Aer Lingus flyer :) |
Hello everyboday, I am a fish here. And I like here very much.

Alright, new here as I was just referred to the site. Have used other travel blogs but was unaware of this one. Freely admit I don't know my way around the mileage world.
I've got about 300,000 Amex MR points and another 90,000 or so on Chase Sapphire. Looking to book some business class (or better?) seats for a flight from EWR/JFK to Milan Malpensa right around the first week of June. Having a hard time using the Amex site to get a sense for what this would cost, or even how to do it. do I need to call Amex? can I by tix and use pts for upgrade? If this should be posted elsewhere please let me know and I will do so. the forum is HUGE and it's hard to find your way around. |

I'd recommend posting here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...p-rewards-410/ That's where all the AXMR experts hang out, and I'm sure they can help you. You'll likely get a much better deal, especially on business class, by transferring your AXMR points to an airline program and redeeming for a business-class award. Round-trip, that should run you around ~120,000 points per ticket (depending on the carrier you transfer to and redeem with), versus using AX's "Pay With Points" function, where your 300,000 points would be worth ~$3,000, which isn't enough for a business-class ticket. The only catch is that saver business-class awards may not be available on all flights, so you need to have some flexibility to book one. The folks over in the AX forum will have much more to say about this, though. |
Hello, Flyertalk!
I've been a long time occasional lurker for years. Just registered today. You guys really helped save my bacon once when I had taken the first half of a round trip flight (WAS -> BOS) , and then found that I wasn't able to check in for my return flight. Turned out that the airline (United) hadn't scanned my boarding pass or something and there was no record of me being on the first leg, so they canceled the return on me. I was not happy with this, and everyone at United that I spoke with basically called me a liar and said I hadn't taken the flight. You can imagine how that impacted my mood. I found some good information here from other people that this had happened to, and was able to write a great email which got the issue resolved after escalating. I never knew that there were severe FAA penalties for having "undocumented" passengers and that because of this, the airlines would deny you were ever on the plane if they didn't scan you in. I have a good chunk of travel under my belt from years past, but have just started traveling a significant amount of the time as of last year. I'm brand new to anything beyond the absolute basics regarding miles, points, etc. Looking forward to learning and getting up to speed. I've always just booked the lowest priced flight regardless of carrier, so I have miles all over the place, and no meaningful loyalty status on any of them. Same with hotel stays, though I should be Platinum IHG at the end of this month thanks to finally starting to pay attention to taking advantage of some of these loyalty programs. Looking forward to a lot of travel this year, learning from the folks here how to best go about it, and contributing what I can. |
Hi All,
New to FT, but have been "in the game" for a couple of years now. Looking forward to learning the ins and outs of the forums here, in addition to sharing what i can. I have JFK-ICN-BKK-USM-CNX-BKK-HKG-ICN-JFK booked on OZ O/I, CX in U, PG and KE F for travel March/April. Hope to share my experiences here with everyone. |

Hi all, I just joined this place and am flying out of DSM as my base hub. Usually through anything international around like ORD, MSP, or DFW. I have been earning miles from credit card offers for the past few years but with no loyalty and just booking the cheapest fares or trying to get the most bang for my buck with different award flight options. Still unsure about which alliance to join or which airline to hone in on to get some sort of status. I only fly about 20,000 miles a year so it's mostly leisure and 10 business trips or so a year. Can't wait to keep learning more on the site as all the lingo is already making my head spin lol.

Hello everyone
I'm new as well and don't know much about this site. Is this international? I'm looking for a cheaper flight from Ottawa, Ontario to Edmonton, Alberta.

I'm on limited Internet now so can't pull up the direct links, but check out the Mileage Run Discussion forum to learn tons of tips about how to search for good airfares, and pay attention to the Mileage Run Deals forum for good fares between your cities and you just might come up with something. Welcome! |
