30 day e-Tourist visa overstay due to flight delay

Does anyone know what happens if one ends up overstaying in India on a 30-day eTourist visa due to flight delay/cancellation.

We are planning our trip to India and as per the current plan will be departing from India on the 30th day itself. However if the flight gets delayed or cancelled and we are not able to depart before the visa expiry, would that cause any issues? Will there be a fine or problems with applying for a visa or oci in future. Just to mention, this visa will be for a 6 year old child. Rest of us either have Indian passport or PIO card (not yet converted to OCI).

If there is a risk of overstay you have to go to the local FRRO and get an exit permit. It should not be a big deal for a child, but you should be aware of the issue and be prepared. The list of FRROs are here: https://boi.gov.in/content/frro-contact-list

You can contact the FRRO of the port from where you plan to leave and ask what you need in advance.

Thanks a lot for the info. I tried calling the contact numbers for Delhi FRRO office and it was either busy or kept ringing with no response.

I'm not clear how this exit permit thing would work in our situation. Our flight's scheduled departure is 3pm on the 30th day and visa will expire at midnight. If the flight departs before midnight we are fine, but it could get delayed or cancelled at the last moment and we may only be able to get a flight departing after midnight.
How can we go about getting exit permit in this scenario and does it even make sense for this situation. I'm sure other people would have been in this situation before. Hopefully someone has some first or second hand info about it.

Just get an exit permit for D+3 or D+4 depending on how much margin you want to give yourself.

And forget about calling - remeber, you are in India now - so just go there in person with subject child in tow!

Or move your departure to D29 so that you have some margin for cancellations/delays.

PS: In case of a delay (not cancellation), as long as you clear exit immigration before midnight you should be fine irrespective of when the flight actually departs.

PPS: What airline/route is this? Might be useful to track on FR24 or elsewhere about delay/cancellation probability in recent times...

Go to the Delhi FRRO a couple of days before your planned departure & let them know you might be staying a day or so beyond the 30 days. That should cover you in case of any flight cancellations.

From the "Important Instructions" tab of that website:

3. Services would be granted at FRRO/FRO office only in case of exigency/emergency.
(...)
11. Foreigners are advised to apply at least 2 weeks in advance.
OP's situation would most likely be covered by point (3).
