If there is a risk of overstay you have to go to the local FRRO and get an exit permit. It should not be a big deal for a child, but you should be aware of the issue and be prepared. The list of FRROs are here: https://boi.gov.in/content/frro-contact-list

You can contact the FRRO of the port from where you plan to leave and ask what you need in advance.
