His original routing was Bom-udr-del which they changed to Bom-ixu-del. the reason they change you to ixu is because both departure times are Similar compared to 660 which is at 1700 hours. They probably assumed you didn't want to go later in the day and hence put you on 442.

Well it was AI 472 (BOM-UDR-DEL) Direct (not non-stop) flight leaving at 14:30 and was sold as BOM-DEL and now its AI 442(BOM-IXU-DEL) Direct (not non-stop again) leaving at 15:00 and I called in saying why not just switch it to AI 660 which is non-stop and was available in same inventory.
To this AI reps said no we have already changed it for you, tough luck.
I can still see the booking under my booking on AI website but no Ticket number.
Doing I-D connection at BOM is a mess anyways till they open the integrated terminal.
Anyhow the OP was about optiontown. Well they are offering Upgrade possibility for 7700(7600+100)INR, do you think its worth it? Oh and when I click on optiontown e-mail it shows old flight AI 472..weird
UPDATE Now I don't see any flight on My Booking at airindia.com, called AI and told that I've been switched to AI 660 but checkin desk will reissue. GRRRR

Personally, I don't value the extra benefits that much on a relatively short flight, but I know others who do. Then again, the 787 experience is also something to consider.

The 787 has international C, which is certainly a step up from the domestic C product AI usually has. And, it's not every day that you get to fly a 787 - flying up front will only improve the experience.
At the end of the day, it's all about how much you value your $130, and how much you value the experience.

In addition to the inflight benefits on the 787 J, don't forget the J priority check-in desks and lounge access at the departure airport. Definitely some tangible value in that as well...
Personally, I would probably do it.

Thanks for pushing me over the edge
. Just did it; figured round trip will come to about $300, after this extra $130, if I am upgraded. It will be still in the ballpark of what I regularly pay in the US for round-trip economy flights of similar distance.

However, AI does sell day-of-departure upgrades: http://www.airindia.in/SBCMS/Webpage...a.aspx?MID=23#
Far above my budget, but maybe it'll work for you. There's no doubt that J is far superior to Y.

I don't believe optiontown is offered on international flights.

About ~$500 cheaper than the cheapest revenue J ticket, but still a lot of cash to be shelling out.
