To be fair, 6E is more reliable than AI, and has far better service than the crappy LCCs we have here in the US.

Then what said would be truer. I have no doubt about the verity of your statement re 6E.
Did you hear about 6E and Star Alliance from the grapevine?

I read it on some blog. I have no clue how reliable the blog is, but it certainly is reasonable - if *A will have US, Spanair, etc. in the alliance, then they must be ok with 6E

i would be surprised from the perspective that they are a point to point airline and joining *A or any alliance would make them align a part of their schedule to *A schedule. so, their routing goes awry.

If GoI, assuming it has any leverage in the matter, is going to allow another airline to join * Alliance, on what basis can it prevent Skyteam from joining the alliance?
