question for those based out of chennai or traveling to chennai often....

how far is the new hilton from the airport????also, have any of you been to the property or stayed there????

i have an overnight trip to chennai next month & my clients said they would meet me at whichever hotel i'm staying at so basically location is not a problem, i just want to stay as close to the airport as possible due to my early morning flight back to delhi....i basically need one more stay to wrap up hilton diamond for next year so would prefer to stay there unless its too far from the airport....

The Hilton Guindy (Chennai) is max about 4 kilometers from the airport. The exit is very convenient when coming from the airport.
I have not stayed here (in fact I dont even know if its open..but I guess it is, since you are booked).

The Trident and the Radisson are much more closer to the airport.
The next stop would be Le Meridien.
The next one (by distance) would be the new Hilton Guindy.

Yes, you will not get stuck in traffic until that stretch.
I would still say , plan for about 20-25 minutes to get to the airport from the hotel.

Oh.. at 530..it will be like a 10 minute ride. Should be similar on the return as well.

its rough during regular rush hour; and between 11PM to 1:30AM when all those big international birds land.

There has been quite a bot of discussion on here in regards to sending money to India. What if you need to send money the opposite direction. Any advice on that? I know for importing goods you can but what about to family and friends?

My in-laws sent wire transfers, reached quite quickly. Do note that there is a fee to receive wires in many US banks ()

Methinks you will have to trot to a bank in person to do this.

Is there any limit on how many $'s you can send?

I remember sending some funds to import some equipment's and the paper work that required made me think twice before ordering on my again. (why/where/why/why/when/why/how/why/repeat the same)

Is this gonna be similar?

I don't recall my in-laws having to go through all this. I could be wrong. They were redeeming some of my wife's FD's and sending the money to the US.

$200,000.00 per resident per year is allowed.

And yes - the system is so flawed, especially if you bank with HSBC - they are absolute dimwits and also follow the *letter* of the law/s, thus not allowing you to execute without major clarifications, because they have to ask you about each and every little thing (where they won't reach out to you or communicate, so you will never ever know!) before they allow your TT.

though the system is still not smooth and has its share of issues, I can say that its much smoother than before.. Folks can easily remit uptop USD 200,000 per year and that is quite a decent sum .. u maybe needed to show the source of those funds ofcourse because of AML reasons etc..but its not so tough IMHO nowadays provided fund is from legitimate sources and proven..
