Platinum Extra Awards - MASTER THREAD

OK. I have done a search on this subject and pose the following:

Do you earn a platinum cert after the 3rd stay of the yr (beginning 3/1) (which would be before you actually earn platinum status (need 5 stays) or beginning with the 3rd stay after earning platinum status.

OK, realistically it would be after earning platinum status because otherwise it isn't a platinum award, the person is just gold. RIGHT?

Okay, but following that logic, since the platinum awards go up to stay #24 (I'm sure the point being this is the stay before you would qualify for diamond), but assuming they used the 3rd stay after you earned platinum, (which is actually stay 8), then wouldn't this 24th stay occur after one had earned diamond status? Something like stay 29.

The reason that I am asking is because I ran into this, when I called GP and challenged that I had not received my award for stays 15 & 18 and even after talking to a supervisor, this is what I was told: that the earning doesn't begin until after the 3rd stay after the plat status is earned.

Has anyone else run into this? I'm sure that was probably Hyatt's intent, but the numbers don't add up. What do you all think? I probably would never have noticed, but I needed points for an award, and was trying to maximize my balance. And when I called about the plat extra awards, this is what I was told.

LOL, sounds like they didn't think about those Plat Extra certs hard enough, otherwise they woulda figured this out themselves......................:(

Once you reach Diamond status, you are no longer entitled to Platinum benefits, and hence you would not get any Platinum bonus points.

Then what's the point of the Plat Extra Award after stay #21 and #24? Technically those awards are impossible to acheive, correct?

Like I said, I think the "intent" is that one would not begin receiving the awards until after one reaches platinum status, in which case, the top tiers should have ended at 15 & 18.

However some marketing genius has put the upper tier at 21 & 24, so when I reach this level (I will reach 21, not 24), I am going to make it a point to request the award. I will likely just go for the points, but GP can't have it both ways, they can't make you wait until the 3rd stay after reaching platinum (even though, in my opinion that's NOT what it says in the T&C's, it just says after the 3rd stay. It is implied, that it is after reaching platinum status) and then expect that once you reach diamond status on stay 25, you're out of luck and won't receive the 21st and 24th award.

Ahh, I guess technically it is possible. If the first stay is a 15 night stay that gets you to Platinum status, then you could technically make the 21st stay. The 24th stay would be more iffy since after that stay you would technically be a Diamond. I think they just didn't think it out when making the rules. I bet they will give you the points if you call and make a stink about it............:p

well If some one was comp'ed to platinum from stay 1, they could make 24 stays and still be platinum. I know one of my co-worker got a platinum status right from stay 1.

Here's the deal. If you were already a Platinum last year, then on stay 3 this year as a platinum, you would get the first award and so on. My wife, a long time platinum, is on stay 12 right now, and like clockwork throughout this year, at each of the 3/6/9/12 mileposts, she got the awards.

It is kind of funny how they work it for folks who weren't platinum and are now working their way up the food chain, but it seems so easy to get platinum status in all sorts of non-stay ways, I can't imagine too many people at stay 24 who weren't a platinum at the beginning of the year. Kind of a funny thing to see what the GP desk folks are saying to explain this.

Interesting. I was diamond last year, and fell from grace. And let me tell you, I can definitely see the difference. So much so that I went out of my way to make diamond for next year. This year has been quite painful. The biggest difference is in customer service. The Diamond c/s is very accomodative. Platinum plain ole sucks. :td:

I guess you make a valid point. I tend to have 1 or 2 night stays, so I earn my status based on stays and not nights. So much so, that I more or less forgot that you can also earn Diamond with 50 nights. :D I think you're right on two fronts: 1) They didn't think it out and 2) If I make a stink they will probably give the points.

Platinum Extras

I am somehwat new to Hyatt - jumped in after Hyatt Place was initiated and FFN 2007.

Questions for those exprienced Hyatt elites - I have been mailed and/or earned several "Platinum Extras" certs - good for food/drink etc. Problem is that I did not realize these have a very short expiration window, and are now expired. Anyone have any luck redeeming 'expired' certs at Hyatt PLace?

Platinum Extras Awards

I am Diamond with Hyatt this year for the first time in about 5yrs, and just tonight saw this page on the website, regarding some sort of special stuff you get upon milestone visits:

https://goldpassport.hyatt.com/gp/en...ras_awards.jsp

Stay 3 & 6: 1,000 Hyatt Gold Passport bonus points, 1,500 bonus points for dining*, food & beverage welcome amenity*, or a complimentary beverage**

Stay 9 & 12: 1,500 Hyatt Gold Passport bonus points, 500 travel partner miles, 2,000 bonus points for dining*, food & beverage welcome amenity*, or a complimentary beverage**

Stay 15 & 18: 2,000 Hyatt Gold Passport bonus points, 1,000 travel partner miles, Regency Club upgrade*, $10 Starbucks gift card, or a complimentary beverage**

Stay 21 & 24: 2,500 Hyatt Gold Passport bonus points, 1,500 travel partner miles, Regency Club upgrade*, complimentary Continental breakfast*, or a complimentary beverage**

I'm at 28stays YTD, and have not ever been notified of this, provided a cert of any kind, etc.

What are these Platinum Awards exactly, and how do I rectify not having gotten them. Presuming, of course, I'm eligible for them.

bbbb Sep 22, 2008 9:31 pm

No, Diamonds get the choice of amenity or 1000 points every time they check-in at a full service Hyatt. They get 500 points at HP and SS hotels.

Right. In the main, they're bait to give Plats a taste of "the Diamond life"...

Full service hotels in North America only. You get nothing in the rest of the world which is sad when compared to Starwood in recognising their top-tier customers. :(
