There is an "or" in the statement. :)

Points for dining

I have only received 2 platinum amenities so far this year, each time I took the straight GP points. I will earn a third one soon and had a question about the points for dining at Hyatt hotels and resorts.
If I choose "points for dining", is there a minimum dollar amount I would have to spend on lunch or dinner to qualify for the points?

I've never used one that's affiliated with the Platinum Awards - but a totally separate one - I've never had a min but then again they never posted without follow up either.

no there is no minimum spend but as you note it does have to be for a lunch or dinner, being the point whore I am I chose the dining option to gain max points.

I just found a Plat Extras certificate while organizing some papers. I'm not sure when I got it, it must have been last year sometime, as the copyright is 2008 and I didn't re-qualify for Plat til Dec 08. The expiration date on the cert is 4/08/09. Can this be of use to me or can I throw it away?

Aau, try to use it! I had one with the exp. date printed so faintly that one needed a magnifying glass to see it, so I used it after the exp. without a problem.

What do the 1500 dining points mean? In other words, how much does that equal? Thanks.

Brendan Aug 8, 2009 7:55 am

Ldsant, it means U can earn 1500 GP points for eating lunch or dinner at the restaurant in a Hyatt hotel. When I did it I was shuffled between the restauant cashier & the reception. It's more convenient to just claim 1000 GP points straight-up if that is an option!

Thanks Brendan! And how timely. . .I'm having lunch there today :) I thought it meant I had a CREDIT towards dining; appreciate you taking the time to explain!

I could be totally off-base, but I think you have to have a certificate in-hand to turn over to them for the 1,500 points.

Correct - one must hand the certificate over for dining and the points show up a few weeks later. I tended to either take the points immediately (no certificate) or use the paper certificate for food and beverage amenity at a more upscale Hyatt (like PH Paris Vendome).

Also, in my experience, will never post properly without intervention by GP CSR.

This is also my experience the 3-4 times I've ever used these things. They always required a followup, and are fairly rare so it was a bit more difficult than the normal 15 second followup and the pts are credited phone call.
