I think these properties look rather nice. Much rather see some selective pickups of full service higher-end hotels like this than a massive expansion of "core hyatt brands" like Hyatt Place/House/Regency. And, I like that Hyatt's acquisitions are skewing more for personal vacation/holiday travel. The road warriors who want the combination of a massive footprint of boring hotels to pick up elite status with work travel + 'aspirational $1000+ per night properties' to burn points can stick with Marriott.

Sure the hotel is not perfect but virtually every hotel in NYC has this criticism in the Marriott portfolio. It's not like elite benefits are great at Edition, RC or any other higher end property in the city and not everyone evaluates a property based on the elite benefits. If I wanted to lead this discussion more off topic I would question which high end property you think actually is better in the MR portfolio in the city but that is not the point of this thread. I think in a city like NYC were they can sell upgraded rooms and suites without issue, elite benefits are hard to come by regardless of the property or the hotel chain it's associated with.

I certainly would. A HP/HH in a city that doesn’t have any Hyatt properties is much more useful to me than a “lifestyle” brand whose main function appears to be a place to see and be seen. I go to hotels primarily to sleep and store my stuff while I’m out exploring the local environment. Night clubs and “vibrant dining and nightlife” opportunities are huge turn-offs for me as I read this as 100% style over substance.

Like I said in my earlier post (and has been shown in other folks comments) there is certainly a market for these hotels, it just ain’t me. I felt the same way about the resort chain acquisition, an all inclusive sounds like a miserable time to me. The Lindner hotels was actually the most interesting as I enjoy visiting secondary and tertiary cities in EU so now have some options to earn Hyatt points while exploring Germany.

Great that you’re happy with the news though.

You skipped the small rooms issue. That's always been the deal killer for me. Just don't see the appeal of paying a grand a night for a 250 sq. ft. room with no views and low upgrade odds in a mediocre midtown location. I don't really see that calculus changing under Hyatt.

I actually like the HP Silverton although it's starting to show it's age.... I wish Hyatt would put one out west in the Summerlin area.

I paid around $400 once for the Chatwal in the SPG days and it still was over the odds for a small crammed in shoebox.

I like it, too. It’s so much better than the other HP in Vegas, which should probably rebranded Hyatt Dump. Both the Silverton and the Dream are reasonably convenient to the area where our friends/family live. When the Dream opens up, I’ll check it out.

Then you must not have many hotels in NYC you can stay at. Shoebox size hotel rooms are the norm…especially for new builds. Not saying I like it but it’s a sad fact in NYC.

I suggest you look at Andaz and Park Hyatt, they have large rooms. That's why I personally feel the Chatwal NY adds nothing to Hyatt's portfolio. Hyatt could really use an upscale property in Montreal and Los Angeles

More FS hotels that are boutique-like - sounds like a win to me. Hyatt needs to increase its footprint.

It's hard to requalify in China where I'm stuck. I'm loathe to stay at HP and HHs... Not enough PHs and nicer hotels here. I have done 50 nights at one PH in last yr or so which basically is how I qualify for Globalist

I stayed at the Chatwal once and got a pretty generous suite upgrade as a lowly Titanium member… It was a pretty memorable stay! Hopefully under Hyatt service levels and recognition will be good as well!

Regardless, Hyatt needs to invest more in its core brands (Hyatt Regency, Grand Hyatt, and Park Hyatt - perhaps Hyatt Centric, too). I was shocked when I read the post from khabah that Hyatt already has 29 brands - that's crazy as there are still so many footprint gaps. Adding more non-standard hotels that most people won't know are "Hyatt brands" to existing markets makes little sense to solve Hyatt's underlying problem of large gaps in some cities (major European cities, like Barcelona, Rome + Montreal + Los Angeles). I get that acquisitions are easier than real development, but continuing with niche acquisitions further sidelines investment in core brands that, in my opinion, should offer the strongest experiences. Park Hyatt is a tiny brand compared to STR and RC. When was the last time we saw a new GH? HR is the bread and butter of the brand - you can create great standard hotels without a focus on conventions that don't have to be "lifestyle-oriented", which we all know is code for "loud and form over function."

Yes, Hyatt continues to expand in a country that most of the world can't currently travel to and has stated their intention to remain closed off to the world for the foreseeable future. Hyatt should increase focus on the rest of the world where more folks can actually visit.
