Was there 1 week ago as a Globalist, upgraded to Junior suite proactively. Asked about breakfast at checkin and was told that it would be charged to the room, and then removed at checkout. Room service or restaurant was available.
Second day went down for breakfast and after asking for the check, I told the ( up to that point ) polite waitress that I wanted to charge it to the room, she said that was not posible. I mentioned I'm a Globalist and after checking with his boss she said "ok, you can go then" in a very rude way.
Third day decided to have breakfast in the room to avoid the rude waitress and the same interaction, called the restaurant and they told me it could only be ordered through their app and pay with CC, again, mentioned that I'm a Globalist, and the guy reacted in a very negative way... Breakfast arrived, but with a bitter taste. I avoided breakfast for the following 2 days of my stay.
It seems the restaurant does not like Globalists. Anyway, it's pretty bad, you can have better at a McDonalds.
Besides breakfast, hotel was excellent for the price, upgrade and location.

Seems like the hotel is not following rules, they screwed me out of breakfast a few weeks ago. I have a one night stay next week so we will see what happens. I even called mgr twice and never returned my call. Customer service here sucks!

Very sad to see as it was actually the cheapest Hyatt in Downtown Chicago, in off season wed find rates $70-$100 a night. Looking at their new rates under new ownership theyre $139 minimum in off season.
We actually stayed there a good amount over the last few years. With COVID and nearby riots they were forced to lower their rates severely.
The front desk would always mention issues with a new type of guests due to their rates being so low. Smoking in rooms, loud parties, police removals.
It was quirky, but for a cheap stay in downtown Chicago it was significantly better than a Hyatt Place or Hyatt House.
Its looking like it was purchased in October and completely left Hyatt (JDV) in December. It has a decent location, but at the price point they want many of the 200+ rooms will go unused, because there are many cheaper hotels and many better hotels at the same or lower price point.

For how long will this hotel be able to remain independent, if it is even that now?
Raising rates after going away from a big brand affiliation and distribution arrangement may seem peculiar on some level, but maybe this is the owners' prep in the run to a new affiliation.

We stayed here over Christmas and New Years police had to come break up several trashy parties with smoking everywhere.
They even have to have very visible off duty police stay in the lobby to continue operations.
As for the quality of the rooms nothing special, and quite lackluster in comparison even to mid-Hyatts in Chicago like HC Magnificent Mile up the street.
Not a great investment, definitely better properties to invest in.
