This thread is for the World of Hyatt Globalist members to share the experience of room (suite in particular) upgrades members receive at various Hyatt hotels and resorts. This is not about the suite upgrade by using TSU (Tier Suite Upgrade) certificate. It is discussed in a separate thread. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyatt-world-hyatt/1825293-world-hyatt-globalist-experiences-tier-suite-upgrades.html

All WoH members receive two (2) Tier Suite Upgrade (Suite Upgrade Awards) certificates by reaching 50 Qualifying Nights or 80,000 Base Points Milestone Awards. By reaching 60 Qualifying Nights or 100,000 Base Points Milestone Awards, all WoH members also received two (2) additional Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) to a total of four (2) Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) each year. By earning the last Milestone Awards, the WoH member also reaches WoH Globalist status and receive other elite benefits.

By using the TSU awards, the suite upgrade (to standard suite) can be confirmed at booking or any other time before check-in. Most likely only standard suite can be confirmed. Without using the TSU awards, room upgrade normally can't be confirmed.

According to WoH membership terms, https://help.hyatt.com/en/hyatt-terms/world-of-hyatt-terms.html?icamp=woh_benefitbadges_terms#/VC

(c) Best Room Available: Globalists will receive the best room available at the time of check-in at Hyatt hotels and resorts, including Standard Suites and rooms with Club lounge-access. The best room available will be determined by the applicable hotel or resort in its sole discretion and may vary from stay-to-stay. The “best room” may, but will not necessarily be, of a room type/category higher than that booked by the Member. Best-room-available benefit includes only Standard Suites (where available), which are defined as rooms within each participating hotel’s or resort’s introductory suite category. Premium, Specialty, Premier, Presidential, Diplomatic, and other suites other than Standard Suites are not included in this benefit. Not valid at Caption by Hyatt, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Destination Residences, or Hyatt Residence Club hotels and resorts.

Some Hyatt properties will automatically recognize WoH elite status and inform member about the room upgrade opportunity. If room upgrade is not mentioned at check-in time, then member needs to request at check-in time or any other time before room is assigned.

Small Luxury Hotels does not recognize most of the WoH elite benefits. So often, room (suite) upgrade is declined.

Second stay at the HR TST in Hong Kong in as many months, and only offered an upgrade for the second night on a two-night stay. Same thing happened during my first stay here, where they said they couldn't upgrade on the first night but could move me for the second.

This hotel always tries to get away with not upgrading Globs, unless you ask about it at the front desk.

Long before WOH, I was almost always upgraded at this property.
It was/is one of the better properties in the US.

In addition, I really like their impersonal, "team member" staff. I really don't want to be bothered, and they are really good at leaving you alone.

GH Beijing - upgraded to a suite at check-in, no prodding required.
Hyatt on the Bund - upgraded to a suite at check-in, no prodding required on 3 out of 4 stays. The one stay that I was not upgraded was because the hotel was sold out in all categories.
Hyatt Regency Delhi - upgraded to a suite at check-in, no prodding required.
GH Hong Kong - no upgrade until I checked availability online and asked at the Front Desk. Very disappointing considering all of the comments I've read on FT.

This doesn't surprise me. Upgrades have never been a strong point for the GH Hong Kong in my experience, as much as I like the hotel. Others seem to have had better luck.

It helps that the basic Club rooms are nicely sized and well furnished.

GH Taipei.

Weekend 1 (3 nights): Initially given a Premier room and told first night sold out of suites but potential to move on day 2. Premier room was a strange, angular set up and temp control was not good. Went to confirm the suite for nights 2 and 3 and then told a guest was checking out at 7PM and the suite could be ready after. Done. Hadn't unpacked much yet anyway and in the suite at 9PM.

Weekend 2 (2 nights): Given suite on low floor which didn't afford a good view of torrential rains.

I like the hotel and staff but find it odd that the evening foods far outpace the setup for breakfast. There's even more fruit in the evening than in the morning.

Hyatt Place Asheville

Booked entry level king, upgraded to "Groom Suite" which the front desk clerk described as the best room in the hotel in her opinion.

It was definitely quite nice - one of the "designer"-type rooms that some HP properties now have on offer - with corner views of the mountains, a small kitchen, and upgraded furniture and flooring. Unfortunately it also fronts the interstate which was noisy even at six floors up. Strangely, the room design was also utterly dysfunctional in several ways, such as the total lack of shelving in the shower and not being able to view the television from a straight-on angle from any piece of furniture.

HR San Francisco. Reserved a Standard King Room for one night stay using a free award night certificate. Upgraded to a Balcony Suite. First time I have received a welcoming email from the GM on the morning of check in. I emailed back inquiring about a suite upgrade, he contacted Director of Rooms, and we had a confirmed suite before arrival. I was impressed!

PH Sydney. Of course no suite upgrade as they are all named suites and even in the gpp the dsu didn't work there. But did get a wonderful opera deluxe with a fantastic view of the opera house for the vivid lights festival.

HR Orlando Airport. Booked standard king, when I checked in was given a Deluxe room. Knew suites were available so inquired about the junior suite. She had no problem looking, but said that they had 2 queens instead of the 1 king I booked which I said was fine. But then she offered another option - the connecting room for my king room.

I accepted and she made up both sets of keys since I'd need to go into the parlor to unlock the connecting door from that side. All together, the room was huge. Big couch, 6 person dining table, 2nd full bathroom, and a kitchenette with full size refrigerator, toaster, wine fridge, etc.

Front desk staff was very pleasant during check in.

I also got to do something I've never done before. I wanted to eat at Cask & Larder for dinner, but it was behind security. Front desk and WN couldn't give me a gate pass so I ended up booking the latest award ticket I could on WN and used it to go thru security. Even got Precheck! Canceled it once I was done eating Totally ridiculous, but it worked

PH Mendoza. Checked the app and there were no suites for the 3 nights I am here. Got a deluxe room. Asked at the front desk and they gave a park suite for the first 2 nights and will try to get me on the 3rd night. Seems something is up as on the 3rd night basically everything is sold out.

The HR at MCO is generally really good about upgrades. I used to stay there quite a bit and often had the corner parlor suites, and yes they are pretty big. I once got the Lindberg Suite, which was a treat. That hotel has a number of interesting room configurations. Nothing super special, but large rooms.

WN at MCO is great for buying tickets to access security. While staying at the HR, I have used them to get past TSA to go to the Sky Club

Park Hyatt Ningbo provided a suite upgrade on a four night stay. Moreover, they STILL provided the usual "diamond amenity" I've grown accustomed to over the years. Good on them.

In the interest of full disclosure, this is my 20th or so stay here, so I may be considered a regular. I appreciate the treatment nevertheless.

Hyatt Regency Thessaloniki

7 night stay at the HR Thessaloniki.
I had used a DSU, so no further upgrade (and did not ask)
full breakfast buffet (great choice)

"Diamond" amenities:
  • bottle of red wine delivered to the room, delivered additional bottle of red wine, when other bottle opened.
  • Fruit basket refilled daily

Hyatt Herald Square :

I don't think this property has very many suites but at check-in they did acknowledge by Glob status and apologized there was no suite available. They did offer me additional water and 5 minutes after I was in my room they knocked and delivered a robe, two pairs of slippers, some chocolates, and a cookie gift box. Nice touch!
