It's obvious from reports on this thread (as well as the Concierge thread) that I'm not the only person who has experienced TSU application issues. The worst was when Hyatt Corporate applied a TSU to the wrong hotel and was unable to restore my original reservation to its original rate and room type. Luckily, the property in question went down in price, but I'm unsure if Hyatt would have had my back had the property gone up in price based on the language used by the concierge.

Hyatt can and should improve the TSU process to reduce the chance of human error. They can do this by creating an online system that allows for application of TSUs. They could also improve the process with better training of their employees so that fewer mistakes are made. It's happened to me multiple times in one year of Globalist status, and it's obviously happened to others on FT, as well.

And, just as a counterpoint, I have never had an issue with 15 SNAs during my lifetime at Marriott. However, I know from reading on FT that others have issues with SNAs, so I wouldn't claim the Marriott system is perfect and call those folks "whiners" just because their experiences don't match up to mine.

Lets do the math together: 13 * 4 = 52.

I’m not a math expert but I think that’s 100%. What a hot mess Hyatt has on its hands, LoL
For me, it’s 6 consecutive years as Diamond/Globalist, so it’s 6 * 4 = 24 TSUs applied without any problem. Some TSU were done by calling my concierge while others were by email. By my math, it’s 100% too!

I am VERY happy with World of Hyatt and consider it the best program for Elite (at this moment), and I am a Hilton Diamond as well as a Lifetime Titanium with Marriott (via Starwood).

Never ever had any issues with TSU as LT Glob and x amount of years as Glob/Diamond. Both on points and cash reservations.

Oh wow, I've been Diamond then Globalist (to this day, I hate their new names) since Marriott bought out SPG, which makes it 7'ish years?

Of course, as with everyone here, I've had my issues & grievances from time to time, but never on TSUs (I've applied well over 90% of the ones I've been allocated) or on using them. I've used them calling the Hyatt general number; have used them calling/emailing my concierge; and, arranging directly with the hotels. The one issue I had was a property in Japan where they assigned the wrong suite, but ultimately the problem was resolved where the resolution, in my view, was considerably above what was required.

As with some here, I'm a Hilton Diamond via Amex; it's fine but Hyatt's better, in my view. As with my old beloved SPG, well, the moment that thing where I had been charged on several occasions for cancelled reservations were enough to keep me at bay, unless absolutely necessary.

Has the program diminished since my first joining and becoming a Diamond? Yes, without any doubts whatsoever. But, who hasn't?

In the 10+ years I have been on FT I’ve never read of the screw ups of applying TSUs being a huge issue. There has been discussion as noted above about how it’s not always clear if a TSU has been confirmed because of a cash rate vs points booking but I can’t recall serious discussion on major TSU failures.

Also, as we are hearing, when there are mixups Hyatt has generally made it right.

I wonder why one, or very few, individuals are having such bad luck with TSUs? Is it karma?

Burnt an expiring TSU on a 1 night stay at Tempe Mission Palms. Received 1BR Suite. Nice suite, large bathroom, but everthing a bit dated and 80‘s style in brownish colors.

In my experience the "mix ups" have tended to be beneficial to me - e.g. TSU applied but never withdrawn from my account, which has happened multiple times. I'm certainly not complaining.

Seems pretty clear to me you are only causing yourself further frustration staying at this inferior Hyatt chain and WOH program. Marriott somehow gives you better experiences, with great SNA results and spectacular Ambassador treatment. Why keep torturing yourself?

Again, I'm unsure why conversations around potential improvements that Hyatt could make to increase the value of their program lead towards folks in this community claiming that somehow it's my fault for experiencing issues because of "bad karma."

UA-NYC I would ask you the same question - why do you keep torturing yourself by reading the Marriott forum and liking many messages critical of Marriott? You clearly hate that "soulless" company because they took away your precious Starwood. At least, I still stay with Hyatt occasionally in 2023 to use up points and certificates and continue to provide informative stay reports when I can.

It would seem to me that quite many of us Globalists do NOT have any issue with our TSUs being applied and applied correctly, and for many consecutive years, so we FAIL to see the need to discuss “potential improvements” by Hyatt. If there are no problem, what are improvements for?

I have never seen Hyatt (or any other company for that matter) enact ANY improvement from “suggestions” or complaints from any forum on FT. And it would be very interesting to see if Hyatt will enact “improvements” from suggestions made by a known whiner

I too got a suite upgrade at the Tempe Mission Palms (but without burning a TSU). Agree with you that everything is dated, but the location on the ASU campus is excellent

Despite your rude name-calling, I hope that your confidence in TSUs is correctly placed and that you don't have issues with them in the future. Perhaps, you think I'm lying about my experiences, but I can assure you that TSU mess-ups are very frustrating when they occur. Best of luck on your travels.

My 4 TSUs applied flawlessly in 2022:
  1. Park Hyatt Paris Vendome
  2. Hyatt Regency Orlando
  3. Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego
  4. Andaz Fifth Avenue (the suite from the TSU was further upgraded to a gigantic 2 bedrooms suite when they learned that our son was joining us at the last minute)
Upgraded to a suite in 2022 WITHOUT having to burn a TSU:
  1. Tempe Mission Palms
  2. Hyatt Regency Dallas (twice)
  3. Grand Hyatt Amman
  4. Hyatt Regency Houston
  5. Hyatt Newport Beach
Some TSUs flawlessly applied in previous years:
  1. Park Hyatt Paris Vendome (4 times)
  2. Grand Hyatt Tokyo (2 times)
  3. Park Hyatt Saigon
  4. Park Hyatt Aviara Carlsbad
  5. Grand Hyatt Hong Kong
  6. Manchester Grand Hyatt (3 times)
  7. Hyatt Regency Orlando (6 times)
  8. Andaz Fifth Avenue (4 times)
  9. Hyatt Regency Danang
  10. Andaz WeHo

Seventh year as a Globalist, 29 TSU/SUA used either emailing my concierge or calling the Globalist line if on the weekend on both cash and point stays.
Never had an issue (upgrade always applied if standard suite available online and honoured by the property at check in whether visible or not on the booking).
Only (minor) improvements for me would be to be able to use them online when doing the booking and having all properties accepting it (but have always been upgraded at Hotel du Louvre anyway so saved some…).

As a client I have given unwavering loyalty to Hyatt and have no reason to second guess my decision, but I appreciate EE's straightforward, fair and impartial commentary. It's quite strange how fervently some posters seek to "defend" a corporation and lash out in a rather (from my viewpoint) unbalanced manner.

2023:
Grand Hyatt Bangkok - TSU successfully applied on a 6 night award booking for an 11th floor Grand Suite King. No further upgrade given.
Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur - TSU successfully applied on a 7 night cash booking for a 25th floor Grand Suite. No further upgrade given.
