I posted this in another thread in March but I think it's part of the discussion about why Hyatt's award structure is a "fair" one. This is from before the changes but it still generally applies.

Category 4------74 properties-----12% of total
Category 5------47 properties------7% of total
Category 6------30 properties------5% of total
Category 7--------7 properties------1% of total

So 87% of their properties are category 4 or below. Only 13% are in the top three categories (the aspirational properties). That's a VERY different weighting that the other major chains where the equivalents of Hyatt Place (Courtyards, Hamptons, etc.) are very often in the top half of the bell curve and where it's rare to see a top property (a Park Hyatt, for example) outside of the top one or two categories. With Hyatt, 29% of their top brand (Park Hyatt) is Cat 1-4 and only one (1) Hyatt Place (their bottom brand) is Category 5 or above (and it's the NY Hyatt Place which is a category 5, not a 6 or a 7).

Labels are (nearly) meaningless, it's location and demand that count.

I don't care about the award category if it's a PH or a HR if it's in a crappy location and I don't want to stay there.

Am I miscounting? I see 17 going up and 16 going down. Annihilated?

Well, considering there's no Category 0, I don't see how any Category 1's went down.

It is pretty obvious he meant 17 going UP FROM Cat 1 and 16 going DOWN TO Cat 1, so a net decrease of 1 property would certainly refute any claim that domestic US Cat 1 was annihilated.

Moreover, globally, there are 18 properties moving up in category from Cat 1 and 36 properties moving down in category to Cat 1, for a net increase of 18 properties in Cat 1.

True, but there are only ~4,800 Hilton properties worldwide.

My future reservations made prior to price changes have been adjusted upward to show new award cost. You might want to check yours.

Did CP take out any additional pts from your acct? I believe they didnt, I think they need to pay the higher or lower cost to the hotel based on the date of your stay but wont affect the # of pts it cost you from the time you made your res

Hedoman, I know someone who had that experience in 2009-10 & got back the higher points price when he cancelled.

Such errors are usually adjusted retroactively, and not likely now anyways.
