I'm starting to see more Hyatts catering to people traveling with their dogs. This can be a real problem for people with dog allergies, in addition to being a disturbance.

Loews Hotels have pets and they have specific rooms in specific sections of the hotel set aside for guests with pets. That addresses two of the three concerns you list. As for not sharing the elevator ... there's plenty of people I've shared elevators with that I would have rather not ...

As a mommy to a Chihuahua, I must say my baby is better behaved than many of the kids that will be at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress. I agree that a barking dog would be annoying, but a parent to a fur baby should be responsible with training their dog, the same as parents should teach their children how to behave and not run down the hall screaming, but a sad fact is many parents don't.

As for whether it equals a downgrade from luxury for the hotel I disagree. Many two income families, that don't want or can't have children lavish their pets with love. I have contemplated taking my chi on vacation with me, since the nonrefundable fee that most hotels charge is about the same as getting a sitter for him and many hotels offer pet friendly rooms and I am glad this is a trend.

about dogs in hotels, I don't care as long as the dogs are not aggressive & don't bark

jrm68 you are one of the RARE owners of a small dog that took the time to train your dog^^^, most owners of small dogs don't and think it's so cute when the small dog is yapping or nipping at me or my larger dog.

I think I am lucky because my dog naturally has a quiet personality, and never really became a yapper. I took him to training so that he would be socialized, since chihuahuas are independent and normally only bond with a few people. I was afraid that people would try and pet him in my arms and he would "protect" me by snaping at them. Most people don't give consideration to a dog's nature, only thier looks and they think small and cute is safe. This is the same problem that big dog owners have when people are afraid of them because of thier size, even if the dog is friendly.

Has anyone been here lately? We are thinking of going next month and are wondering any news? RC ??? This was one of our favorite properties but after some of the most recent posts I am skeptical. I would appreciate any input. Thanks

My wife and I stayed here a few weeks ago while taking a weekend away. Saw Blue Man Group and did a little shopping. The property was itself is nice and we enjoyed our stay. We did switch rooms after checking in due to the shower not being as clean as I'd like. However, I trust that was a fluke and well part of nature living in FL - mold happens.

The staff were friendly and all details of the property were nice. The only item we could pick on was the tired restaurant furniture. It needs to be updated and replaced. The whole restaurant could stand an update but in general it was quite nice. The furniture outside by the pool could also be due for upgrades but that is looking to find somewhere to complain.

We have already made plans to return to the hotel in a few weeks.

I was there a couple of weeks ago for the first time. The RC on the 12th floor was open but it was fairly busy. Since it was so busy, they actually had a room across the hallway open with tables to accomodate the overflow. I was suprised to see that there were only 2 tables in the RC that could accomodate more than 2 people. Other than that, the lounge was fine. Snacks and free drinks/booze in the evening and dessert later on. Breakfast was pretty typical RC food and was fine.

I was givena room witha pool view. The room was fairly small but other than that, it was fine

beer, wine, and alcohol were all free from 5-7pm or so. After that just beer and wine until 8pm or so. Then aperitifs (Baileys, port,...) were free with dessert until 9 or 10pm. This is the first time I've seen this at a North American Hyatt recently other than Hawaii

I used FFN's to stay here and was given RC access as a Diamond member. The resort fee was waived as well

I thought I would provide more detail for my stay.

When entering the hotel entrance by car, I was greeted by a security guard at a booth. It appears that only hotel guests are allowed in the hotel grounds although the area seemd pretty safe.

Upon checkin, I was offered a compementary glass of Champagne which I thought was a nice touch. I parked in self-parking which was a bit of a hike, but there is an entrance nearby downstairs so most of the walk was inside - maybe 5-7 minutes?

I was given an upgraded room with a pool/fireworks view with lounge access. The room was small but it was fine.

I am surprised by all of the negative comments about the lounge although I have never been to the original larger lounge. I would say it was roughly the size of the SFO Hyatt, maybe a little smaller - pretty small for this property but they did have a room across the hall to accommodate overflow and the food was decent and the drinks were free.

Evening lounge offering included:
warm ravioli and one other dish (don't remember - sliced sausage?, pasta?)
various breads/crackers
various cheeses
grilled vegetables
veggies and dip (3 dips)
various bread sticks
dried fruit
nut/pretzels,..
olive tray - red, green, and black
other items that I can't remember
no bottled water or soda which I thought was unusual - there was a self serve soda fountain for soft drinks
There was a decent self serve coffe/latte/expresso machine as well

dessert
various chocolates and cakes

All drinks (including beer,wine,alcohol) were free

2 PC's available in a separate area

one large screen TV usually showing CNN/news. There was also a TV in the overflow room.

Although I did not see the prior lounge, I would have to say that this is one of the best lounge offerings that I have seen throughout North America other than Hawaii and Gainey Ranch, although I have probably not been to as many Hyatts as most others here. As a comparison, this was much better than the offerings at Mission Bay, San Diego. I can't imagine how nice the former lounge must have been if it was better than this one, athough a larger lounge would be nicer.

The resort fee included:
9 hole golf course. Par 3 holes ranging from about 40 yards to 90 yards
Ping Pong
Paddle boats
bikes
probably other stuff I am not aware of

The golf course was really great. They give you a pitching wedge, a putter, and 2 balls and off you go to play 9 holes.

Although the room was average, I thought the lounge and various pools/activities around the resort made this a very good place to stay. Unfortunately, it rained during most of our stay so we didn't get to try nearly as many of the outside activities that we would have like to.

The resort fee was waived for my FFN stay.

The next time I'm in Florida, this will be my first choice.
