I watched the car move around the airport area for a while and then stall in various places. I started to wonder if it was some kind of strike situation (like someone was purposefully refusing to pick me up). Various taxi drivers near where I was standing (there are lots of tout taxi drivers trying to pick up fares) started to speak to me in threatening ways when they saw I was waiting for Uber. Eventually the situation got so uncomfortable that I walked to the Novotel hotel (it is in the airport) and had them call me a taxi to the Hyatt.
Using Uber getting from airport can be tricky if you hang around for more than 5 mins staring at your phone watching the car drive in circles.

Best if you go upstairs at arrival zone and specify on the app. door 2,there is place to specify this info when I arrived last week.

Cost was 65050 IDR ~5 usd including toll charge and parking fee.

I think Grand Hyatt wants 390000 IDR for pickup at airport
~28usd for a small minivan.

Another family member arrived much latter on the domestic side 130am and paid 175000 IDR for a normal taxi to GH.

There is a bank located within the GH property that's open 9am-6pm 7days a week with rates better than airport exchange but not as attractive as the local money changer.

Mosquitoes so far haven't been an issue.
YMMV

I wish I had this advice when I arrived last year and took an overpriced airport taxi to the GH! I can vouch for Uber to get around the island. We used it exclusively to get from the hotel several times including our ride back to DPS. Lyft lists Bali on their website, but I imagine Uber has signed up more drivers.

I was devoured by mosquitoes during happy hour - the lounge is set amidst a pond after all - but YMMV! Some people, like me, attract more and furthermore, may react with greater sensitivity once bitten. If you get bitten elsewhere and you find the bites bothersome, bring bug spray.

Hi,

I'm thinking to book Grand Hyatt Bali for a family vacation in Feb/March 2017. I'm seeing the nightly rate at $101/night in the beginning of March. Is Feb/March a low season? Are there any construction/revelation going on at the hotel at this moment?

If I book one standard room ($101/night) for two nights and apply DSU certificate and one night with Chase Hyatt's annual free night certificate (category 1-4), how likely will the hotel let us stay in the same room/suite? What is kind of suite do we get with DSU? Does the hotel offer further upgrade at check-in?

Can four adults stay in one suite? Or do we have to book two rooms?

Thanks!

Try booking a suite with 4 people and see what it does.

If you're a Diamond at the time of the stay, they will almost certainly let you stay int he suite for the third night. Further upgrade depends on how full they are, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

As for four adults, I don't know that any of the suites have two beds. We stayed in two different suites and, while both were very large, there was only one bed. I don't think the couch(es) could sleep two adults. Maybe one.

Well 350k IDR is about $26 USD, but I share your sentiments about the ripoff airport taxis.

Always check at the Golden Bird counter. They usually provide the hotel car to the GH. It was $23 or so a year ago.

Online you can certainly book a suite, and many other room types with 3 adults. For 4 adults it only shows villas.

just returned from 2 nights at GH bali- Excellent hotel

just got back from 6 days in Bali (3 night each at GH Bali and Conrad Bali) with spouse and two children (4 and 2 yrs old) just before Christmas. Taxi from the airport is rip off (relatively), paid around 22 AUD (was coming from SYD).

Booked cash and points for 2 nights and used free night cert for third night (spouse account), was able to apply DSU for the first two nights and were upgraded to the the same room for the third night. Suite was nice and all that, but a long walk from our building to the Grand lounge for breakfast was killer with children but nonetheless room/suite was spacious, looking into Garden (and ocean in the distance). It was yuge room, they also brought rollaway bed in a living room.

Breakfast in GH lounge was OK and evening offerings were good. Enough to fill you up for night.

Location: bit off track, nothing interesting close by except Bali Collections - A truly rip off. We did buy some groceries and used a restaurant for a take away dinner. Nothing to write about.

I called UBER next day for spouse shopping trip to Kuta and back, guy showed up, took us to Kuta and back (total of 5 hours) for 250,000 IDR. Asked him for a full day price for car, settled for 700K IDR, picked up from hotel lobby in the morning, took us to Elephant Safari park, Telegagang rice fields and Besakhi temple (excellent location and highly recommended). He literally saved us from haggling and other BS tourist traps, Big thanks to him! He became our regular go to guy for short and long trips. I can provide his number if anyone is interested. Also dropped us off at the airport from conrad for around 100,000 IDR.

A year ago, waiting time was 35k IDR per hour for Uber. If you're not driving too far, and want them to wait, keep that in mind. Do check your Uber receipts. One driver showed we had driven 60-70kms, even though it was less than 10km, mostly waiting.

You can often hire a full day driver (8-12 hours) for 500-700K IDR. Just don't let them take you to tourist shops you don't want to go to.

Normal fare from Benoa to Airport should be 45-80k, depending if you take the toll bridge, and traffic.

Did your driver prevent you from being hassled by the supposed "temple guardians" (AKA local mafia who insist that they escort your every move) at Besakih? Have read horrendous stories on TripAdvisor and wanted to go there in my next GH Bali stay, but am very hesitant at being intimidated - something that could spoil a much anticipated day outing.

yes and TBH, we won't have done it without him shielding from all the "guardians" He also has some Sarong lying around in his car which saved us another 10-20K at the temple. I highly recommend it and will use him when I get back.
As for extra charge to the airport, I gladly pay someone extra being honest and understanding. He also recommended (note recommended, not insist) some local cheap restaurants in Nusa Dua area, which he took me free of charge at night for some take away food.

I checked at the Golden Bird booth on Sunday, when arriving at the domestic terminal. Was 230k ($17 USD) to the Grand Hyatt, Conrad, etc for an Innova van, which is usually fine for 3-4 people with reasonable luggage.

Does anyone have a photo of the laundry costs? Or know if there are outside pickup/drop off laundry services or nearby laundry services? Thanks.

There are so many mom and pop places that wash clothes. If you pick one near a big hotel you'll pay 2-3 times the going rate.

It's been a year since I had laundry done in a local place, but I recall 5000-10000 per kilo. (38 cents to 75 cents per kg)

You'll likely have to drive a couple kms to find a good price. I don't think I'd have delicate or expensive fabrics washed there.

I have an upcoming stay. Has any diamond members been successful with getting breakfast in the restaurant versus the club? I know a few pages back, the new welcome letter says there is an extra charge for this.

Thanks.
