If the hallway is noisey then I always put the used bath towel down to absorb a little. Guess the no shorts policy is not enforced in the Lounge as three guys were walking around readily last night. I changed into jeans. Hots items were brought around. The place has old guts. The bathroom sink does not drain well and the water runs hot unless turned all the way to cold. You must have hard water in Melbourne because there are water spots on the fixture. The view is pretty nice from this room.

I believe they ran out of money during the refurb so there are some really old fixtures including the bathrooms, and even the circa 1970s telephone!

Total time budget for Skybus with transfer from GH to MEL airport via Southern Cross Station is one hour. Onward to Sydney.

Is this the normal standard at this hotel?

Had a recent stay where I used a suite upgrade. Upon check-in, there were signs that the room was not properly cleaned (this was highlighted to the hotel). Additionally, went out one day and returned at 4 pm to find that housekeeping didn't yet get to my room. They have offered me a comp upgrade for my future return, which I am not sure if I want to take as I might want to try the PH instead.

First stay at this hotel, so would like other to weigh in if this is the norm.

Definitely not the norm. Did you call the front desk as soon as you entered the room?

I did, they apologized, and offered a comped upgrade for my return visit.

However, when housekeeping was slow to make their way to my room, it just leaves an impression of indifference. Then again, I always benchmark these things to the Hyatt in Japan, which can be unfair at times.

That would be almost unfair always.

I found the rooms to be clean and comfortable.

Is / was there a way to get your suite cert back? Who cares about going back at this point.

Well since it is an expiring suite upgrade, it didn't really matter to me about getting my cert back.

I've settled it already though, and got other comp which I am satisfied with.

How 'cosy' will a rollaway in a standard twin room be? I phoned the hotel and they said it was perfectly possible but is it going to be too tight a fit for three adults?

I had a very enjoyable two night/two room stay there last week. The Grand Club lounge is fantastic for evening drinks and canapés. It has great views and a great atmosphere, although the breakfast offering was quite basic. Diamonds (and possibly others) can elect to have the full buffet breakfast in Collins Kitchen for an additional $20. The 4pm Diamond check-out was applied without issue.

It was tight but not unworkable.

I am convinced that those priasing this property haven't stayed in many decent hotels.

The lounge is nothing particularly special. Better than the Qantas Club in Rockhampton, but that's about it.

The doors have sufficient room under them for limbo dancers to pose a real threat to the safety of guests. You wouldn't want to be giving your wife a good seeing-to unless you have a significant exhibitionist streak.

The decor is crass.

The only winner is the restaurant - excellent for lunch or dinner, but you don't have to stay at the hotel to enjoy that. Even the pool is rubbish.

I'm typing this while sitting in front of a gas fire at the Park Hyatt - infinitely superior on all counts. $30 a night cheaper this week, too.

Greetings from the Grand Hyatt Melbourne Review October 3,2013

After a late check out and a quick taxi due to luggage I arrived at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne
Arrival
Bellman was quick fast and efficient taking my bags and expiditing
At reception lobby and in club I was remembered.
They whisked me to the 31rst floor for fast and efficient true Diamond VIP check in
My suite which I had been in before felt like coming home.
Within minutes a call came from the front office manager asking if everything was to my satisfaction and it was 100%

Suite

Unlike the Park Hyatt suite the Grand Hyatt Melbourne has real jacuzzis not just soaking tubs
Also killer views from the 28th floor with sparkling views of the city skyline and dead on views of the Yarra River the Langahm hotel
(previously the Sheraton for those that rember years ago) and the Southgate complex and Casino area

The Grand Club lounge tonight was vastly busier and had 4 to 5 times the offerings of the Park Hyatt where I came from today
The list of impressive offerings is dizzying.I'd argue that globally this is the best use of 12,000 GP points hands down
For those that want to make dinner here depending on your tastes virtually no problem whatsover.
Not my idea of dinner but would be for most normal folks
The service here in the club was exceptional with everyone running from guest to guest to insure of their satisfaction.

Just a small sampling of tonights Grand Clubs offerings below
Poached Salmon with a white drizzled cream sauce
Chilled Oysters on the half shell
Grilled Vegetables
Fried prawns (outstanding) ^
Cauliflower spiced fried wontons
Carmel pastry tart (sweet but delicious)
chocolate brownies
Fresh strawberries
watermelon
giant seedless grapes
fresh baked breads
crudites
white chocolate truffles
Assorted nuts
tri colored mini pistachio cakes
assorted cheeses and crackers
Rice stuffed grape leaves (greek inspired)

I'm off to a great stay so far and will follow up the rest of my experience as it unfolds
Cheers

Did you book a Suite or use an e-vert? You weren't in a suite at the PH? You were in a Club Deluxe King. The PH has over 37 different room types, but there is a version of the Club Deluxe that has a spa as well.

That's another strike for the hotel
I thought that i was in a suite
room 1956 certainly a large room which was nice enough

Yes I used a diamond suite upgrade at GH Mel but not at the Park Hyatt
Historically the PH had always upgraded to suites 100% in the past as available in all past experiences
The hotel was unusually slow I might add
The bathroom at the PH looked the same as the suites with the TV in the wall as I remember

1957 is my usual room. It's a Club Deluxe King. Literally the suites are in the other wing with a frosted door.

So the fact you thought it was a suite, and you didn't use an e-cert is a positive.

If you do use an e-cert, the suites at the GH are far larger, although rather soulless.

Oh, and note your bathroom and phone at the GH. They are even older than the bathrooms at the PH. The phone is from the 1980s!
