... opened condom in the room during my stay.
I dropped my mint between the nightstand and bed. I reached down and instead of grabbing the mint, I grabbed an opened (but thank God unused) condom.
After using my anti bacterial wash, I called the front desk and asked them to come up and see the room.
The agent was very apologetic and appropriately horrified. I am a Diamond GP and she offered 5,000 points which she said she hoped was fair.
I explained the main reason I thought she should see this is so that housekeeping should be reminded to check between the bed and nightstand.
Keep in mind this was a new Hyatt in a major city and is a category 4 hotel but was much nicer than the category 6 hotel that I just stayed in located in the same city.
Is 5,000 a reasonable gesture for this?

dude, it happens. 5,000 pts and an apologetic manager is more than fair in my opinion. I'm more appalled by the previous guest who obviously KNEW he/she had dropped the condom and didn't even bother to fish it out. bad form and bad karma if you ask me.

Yes 5000 is reasonable... at this day and age when Hyatt is being pretty tight on points and promos... Be happy. I was at HR Chicago and in the shower with the DND sign on my door and someone walked in on me. My room had be given to another guest!!!! I got 15,000 points, $250 F&B credit and a few bottles of wine. I was in the shower and I heard the door open...
I think I would have been less bothered with finding unused condoms under the bed.

I think it's more than fair. But do people seriously think that housekeeping has the alloted time to do thorough room sweeps? I think the standard practice for hotels is around 20 minutes per room for each housekeeper. It's one of the reasons I hate the beds with a bunch of pillows on them (especially the decorative ones). Do you really think the linens are switched out on all of those after each departure?Originally Posted by chuck1

Now let me put this into your head... just think about what the previous guests were doing in that bed that you had just slept in...

Yes 5,000 points without having to really make a fuss about it and an apologetic manager is very reasonable. Now if the condom was used with "stuff" in it - that could be another story.
Trust me, but without going into specifics (if you need them do a very thorough search for one of my posts somewhere in the dim, distant past), it can get a LOT worse than that. I agree the compensation in this case was acceptable.

Ask for 10k. I was put in a room with an alleged sea view in a 5 star resort here in Greece and had to move the next day. I complained and an Amex Supervisor took the entire first night ( over 180 euros ) off the bill. Originally Posted by RichardInSF

10 K is half a night or so. That is what I would demand ! What ever points are a half nights worth . Or free dinner for 2 in their restaurant with wine etc.
I guess as a native New Yorker I am more demanding.
Don't ever take someone's first offer !
Thank goodness no one reads Flyertalk who might abuse this.
