Ask for 10k. I was put in a room with an alleged sea view in a 5 star resort here in Greece and had to move the next day. I complained and an Amex Supervisor took the entire first night ( over 180 euros ) off the bill.
10 K is half a night or so. That is what I would demand ! What ever points are a half nights worth . Or free dinner for 2 in their restaurant with wine etc.
I guess as a native New Yorker I am more demanding.
Don't ever take someone's first offer !
