You've hit the nail on the head with that remark, at least for me.

The presence of illustrious flyertalkers defending Hyatt in this case should tell you all you need to know.
Rhetorical question: will points/miles in frequent traveler programs increase or decrease in value over time?
I have learned to devise a burn and hold strategy so that I do not get too shocked with these events. As stated previously by others, Hyatt continues to offer me tremendous value.

Have to say how impressed I am with Hyatt's ability to generate loyalty.

Looks like there will be little fall out from the devaluation.

Unlike with Hilton, where around 50% of us loyal HHONORS members are pissed off, and ready to seek out greener pastures.

A survey done to assess the impact of IC Priority Club's the "Biggest Loser" promotion showed that around half of Hilton loyalists are diverting business away from HH to PC....

I agree. This exact thread was started in the Hilton forum after their devaluation (which was admittedly far worse) and there were pages upon pages of angry rants. Very few people stuck up for the program.

Hyatt roped me in. I went from not having a GP account to MR'ing and moving ALL my business stays to hyatts if at all possible. I'm now wondering if I even need SPG, but reality tends to drag me down when I look at available properties across the globe. I can only hope Hyatt keeps building loyalty like wildfire among the general public which gets me more hotels to use my quickly rising stack of points.

Astan, TE was the one who started both threads.

I agreed with him re Hilton, not so Hyatt.

The difference in response is that Hyatt always has been proactive with respect to FTers and others concerns, no so Hilton.

Hilton promises to have the list of point stretchers out by a certain date and never does, etc.

Hyatt gave advance notice of the changes -- and the changes with respect to each of its hotels beforehand, if memory serves, Hilton did not so you had no idea where a certain hotel would land after the devaluation.

In addition, and probably most signficantly, Hyatt not only promised that all hotels will still be able to be booked via the FFNs promotion, but it has also been expanding the guaranteed list of benefits for its Diamond elite members.

No shenanigans re lounge access or what consitutes breakfast -- clearcut rules that if lounge is closed when normally open, then you get 2, 500 GP points and a Full Breakfast in the restaurant.

Guaranteed free internet if Diamond (and Gold, as well?) Rules are straightforward and easy to understand. In addition, GP is responsive to complaints, this is not always the case with HHonors, much less the HHonors Diamond line.

So, all in all, although no one likes to see a devaluation, when all the other chains have undergone one, GP members are philisophical about Hyatt doing the same.

However, the greatest reason for acceptance is probably due to the fact that although there may be a point devaluation, that does not inhibit a plain vanilla non-elite Hyatt member from being able to book a PH hotel or another extremely desirable hotel for the same "cost" as before = 2 stays at whatever property you happen to alight at during FFN promos. In essence, with the FFNs promos, there has been no devaluation at the hotels one could possibly redeem one's reward, and hence all of Hyatt's properties are in the mix for reward redemption at no increased cost to the GP member. ^

Yes - most definitely. No Starwood devaluation in 2010.

After having time to think about the whole devaluation revealed last week... I have to agree I am not bothered by it at all. I am also an HHonors Diamond and with over 600K HHonors points in my account I was hit hard by their devaluation.

I am still fuming over it... it was insulting the way they not only recategorized all their properties, they increased the points required for each category at the same time. If it was one or the other, I would have been fine with it... but doing both at once was too much.

Unfortunately, as a HGVC owner (which I still love), I am kind of a "captive" member of the HHonors program, so I am stuck with them.

Hyatt's handling of the same issue was entirely reasonable, and as many have pointed out even expected. Besides... with all the FFN promos going on I can't even remember when I had to give up any points for an actual award stay anyway! lol

In regards to the title of this thread... I can offer Hyatt Gold Passport my commitment to stay.

Wow I'm thoroughly impressed with the amount of loyalty Hyatt has generated from it's GP members. If they had more hotels I would jump, however they simply aren't where I am. As a leisure traveler I don't have enough stays to qualify for top tier in 2 programs. But love the Manila Casino Hyatt as there are no Starwoods at all in the PI.

As Hyatt Diamond I had better upgrades to suites than Starwood Platinum. For me, it's my favorite program. Unfortunately due to lack of locations, I'm forced to other programs as well...
