Present your AA card at check in and ask for miles. With Hyatt Place, I prefer the kiosk check-in as my miles consistently post when I check in that way and input my own frequent flyer number (though in past months that has been a UA number and not an AA number due to UA promos).

[*]How does GP know to give miles or credit to my AA account? where do i input my AA#
There isn't an option on the Hyatt web site to add your AA number. It has to be done on check-in. I've had occasions where I presented my UA card and the stays still posted as points, but a quick call fixes those.

[*]if its after five stays, what shows up during the first four stays, assuming after stay 5 of the promo, the 30K in AA miles pops up?
With the UA promo it would just show 2000 bonus miles for each stay, plus the 500 base miles for the stay. If the AA promo is done in the same way, you would look for the 3000 bonus miles to post per stay plus your 500 base miles (separate entries).

[*]Status stay credit? it sure sounds like you get a elite qualifying stay credit, but does it post the same without any points?
All of my recent UA-credited stays qualified. No reason to think it would not work the same with AA. I've already redeemed 4 of those nights in Melbourne.

[*]How do I switch back after the five stays to GP points? same way that i switched over to miles?
Just don't present your AA card. Points is the default unless you ask for miles. Keep in mind you still get your Diamond amenity points even if you select miles for the stay.

[*]I haven't registered to select points or FFN yet? will this make a difference or will I be forced to go with FFNs since I have selected miles for some of my stays?
I don't know the answer to that, though I'd suspect one promo has nothing to do with the other. I took the free nights with my UA credited stays and everything was properly credited.

I've been diamond for 6-8 years now. I also have ALWAYS selected GP points for my stays. Not a once have I ever selected air miles except when it was an addition to my points like that UA bonus of 1500 or was it 2500 points 3 years ish ago where the UA miles were in addition to anything you got with your points.

Well now this five stay/30K AA miles promo pops up and for me personally its too good to pass up. It coincides with my Hyatt hotel hopping for business as well starting next week

Here is where the stupid questions that I should really know the answer to come in..
  • How does one go from selecting points to miles on my account?
You can't on your account. For each stay individually you can request either points or miles at checkin. Alternatively, you can call GP CS after a stay and have it switched to miles.
  • How does GP know to give miles or credit to my AA account? where do i input my AA#
You provide it at checkin or when you call CS.
  • if its after five stays, what shows up during the first four stays, assuming after stay 5 of the promo, the 30K in AA miles pops up?
The bonus will post as a seperate item after the 5th stay.
  • Status stay credit? it sure sounds like you get a elite qualifying stay credit, but does it post the same without any points?
    Yes and Yes.
  • How do I switch back after the five stays to GP points? same way that i switched over to miles?
as above, you can even mix stays back and forth if needed.
  • I haven't registered to select points or FFN yet? will this make a difference or will I be forced to go with FFNs since I have selected miles for some of my stays?
You can do either the 5K points / 2stays or the FFN's and still select miles for they stays.

Also, you will still earn the Diamond amenity points on miles stays.

Thank you to tom911 & benmaller for answering this - the only thing that I would add is that the Diamond welcome amenity point will have to be requested (and many CS agents will say you don't get it because they don't know how to do it - it needs to be posted separately) - so I would not stress over how the stays post (as GP points or AA miles) just call after you've completed a bunch (might as well be all 5) and ask them to convert the GP points stays to AA miles (and to ensure that you get the Diamond amenity also). You're not entitled to any Gx points though.

Agreed, thanks Benmaller and Tom911 for the quick response and helpful responses; one thing did appear to be contradictive and that was when the miles post.. but thats not a biggie to me

now going back to Peteropny's comment.. am i reading that right that I should just go business as usual and when I complete (and they have posted) the five qualifying stays (for the AA promo) that I should just call and ask them to convert those five stays to AA miles all in one phone call??? Actually this (If I read it correctly) would be the easiest way for me to do this assuming they do these kind of retroactive transactions. But hey.. if so.. I love this idea; plus I could make sure I keep the 1W as well all in the same phone call

Do I have that interpretation right?

That's how I handle it. The agents can easily make the switch from points to miles. What they can't do is a switch backwards, from miles to points. I have credited a lot of stays to UA over the past six months. Now I will credit the next five to AA. I'll wait til they all post, then do it as you propose with a single phone call.

Be aware that airline miles are sent to the airlines once a couple times a month. Then it takes quite some while for the airlines (UA and Virgin, in my experience) to post them. I've seen it take upwards of six weeks. Don't expect to be using these points for near term redemption.
