Expedia Cyber Monday 90% Off Coupon - FAIL

Expedia sent out a very widely publicized Cyber Monday coupon code of 90% off on select hotels when booking through the mobile app.

Checked the Bellagio in Las Vegas and other random properties with each and every one coming back with a message saying the 'coupon has expired'

Other reports have been received saying that the coupon code has worked on the mobile app all the way through to payment and then the nasty surprise of getting the confirmation email from Expedia showing a charge of FULL PRICE Also, some have said they've called Expedia who've said its for SINGLE OCCUPANCY only which is not specified anywhere in the T&C's of the offer

Clearly an epic fail on the part of Expedia so a friendly warning to make sure your purchase is refundable and to scrutinize the FINAL price if you're able to get this supposed coupon to work!

Umm...the sale doesn't start until 0900 PST which I'm sure you know is 1200 EST.

This sale hasn't begun yet. 12PM EST the first stage of hotels go on sale. Goodluck.

The 90% went off on expedia.ca already, I see a confirmed booking on Bellagio already in one of the vegas facebook groups.

The email I received clearly stated the sale had begun at 0900hrs EST and within 40 minutes the site now says the sale has expired!

What a complete waste of time courtesy of Expedia

I'm in the U.S. so don't care much about .ca. I care about .com which begins at 12pm EST.

Some of what you pronounced makes sense, but not this statement: no one expects this code to last more than a few minutes

but do you care about being charged full fare despite the coupon supposedly working and then being met with complete incompetence by Expedia customer support when you call to inquire?

Questionable assertion. What prevents a resident of either country from booking on either website?? Except that deals are kinda impossible to snag, especially on US website (likely 10x more impossible) lol

This is actually what happened to me. I got the coupon to work, then it gave me an error. I submitted again and it charged me full price. I imagine the error meant that the coupon code had been all used up. Thankfully it was refundable or I would have been pissed off.

Very valid point: that's what monopoly/oligopoly breeds

UPDATE: from a YVR based FB group, "Escalation agent has said the coupon isn't working because it was supposed to start 9 am PST - but understands it was advertised incorrectly (was advertised as starting EST). He's talking to his superior as they have a workaround - and are trying to fix this for everyone."

So Expedia has admitted to sh*tting the bed on this...but offers no explanation for allowing coupons to go through only to charge full price?!?
