Yes, but naturalizing in Macau is way more difficult as a permanent non Chinese resident.

Hello. Just want to ask, has anyone, like, ANyone, tried to renewal their 回鄉証, HRP, home return permit outside of HK and succeed? I saw a case in page one about LA, I am personally in London, but I couldn't find any information online about a successful case, or guidance towards getting one, I am sure there are 10s and 1000s of HKers who would like to travel back to China straight away for tourist purpose and not having to travel back to HK just for renewal. Anyone?

Please, I really need an answer as mine is about to be expired soon.

About HRP renewal (not in HK)

Has ANYone, successfully renewal their HRP card, 5 years or 10 years outside of HK? Mine is about to expire, and I would like to travel directly to China from the UK without having to wait in HK.
Has anyone done this successfully from the UK embassy?

Thanks.

HRPs are issued by CTS only.

If you want to travel directly to China, you will need to apply the Travel Document from the Embassy.

I have tried flying directly to China with my British passport, HKID card and my HRP multiple times now, hiding my British passport in the way in. But if its only issued by CTS, then it means a lot of ppl would have to travel back to HK to renewal their HRP card, probably just for this purpose only :/

You can ask them. Their reply would be more accurate.

No. The Home Return Permit can only be issued in HK and Macau. There is an equivalent that can be issued abroad by embassies and consulates called the PRC Travel Document.

True, if you don't want to get the travel document.

In fact, getting their HRPs renewed is a task that many overseas Hong Kong and Macau people plan to go when they return to Hong Kong/Macau.

I would rather use an overseas passport with visa to go to China from now on in case you need consular help. One never knows.

If the PRC assesses you to be eligible for a HRP, it doesn't matter you use a foreign passport with visa from them to enter. You will be deemed and treated as a Chinese national even after all that trouble.
