List of current discounts on the Airport Express

Free travel for children (aged 3-11) and half-price travel for seniors (aged 65+)

From 16 December 2022 to 29 January 2023, Child Octopus card holders enjoy free journeys, while Elder Octopus / JoyYou Card holders enjoy a 50% discount on the Octopus fare. Details available on the MTR website.

Up to 40% off single and return tickets

When purchased in advance online at kkday (https://www.kkday.com/en/product/2425) and you will get a e-redemption voucher QR Code 1-2 hours later, or...
When purchased online from Klook (https://www.klook.com/activity/71-ai...ess-hong-kong/). After payment, you will immediately receive a confirmation email and e-redemption voucher (which is valid for 1 month from the order date), and can use it immediately (as of May 2019)
Hong Kong, Kowloon and Tsing Yi station tickets are available at a discount of around 40% off.

Alternatively, if you pay with an HSBC credit card and the total order amount is at least USD50, you will receive an additional USD5 discount by entering the promo code HSBC18US5 (first order only). For details, see https://www.homeandaway.hsbc.com/1/2...looktravel/all

Note: if you purchase multiple one-way tickets in a single transaction on Klook, you will only be issued a single voucher. If you exchange that voucher, you will receive multiple tickets, valid on the day of exchange only.

If you want to purchase multiple tickets for use on different days (say several different trips) you have to buy single one-way tickets in separate Klook transactions, receive several separate vouchers, and exchange those vouchers on your respective travel dates.

30% off single and return tickets

Use promotion code mtronline when buying a single or return ticket on the MTR website or MTR mobile app between 16 December 2019 and 5 January 2020. Tickets are valid for 92 days from the date of purchase. For details, see http://www.mtr.com.hk/en/customer/main/ael_winter.html

Free connection on the MTR

http://www.mtr.com.hk/en/customer/se...nnections.html

30% off single and return tickets

When purchased from Hong Thai travel agency either online (http://www.hongthai.com/tc/Promotion...Promotion.html) or in person at a branch office (list of addresses: http://www.hongthai.com/tc/templates/BranchListAll.html).

If purchasing online, the "confirmation note" (which you must print out and show at the Airport Express station ticket counter to get your ticket) will be e-mailed to you 12-24 hours after you make your purchase on the Hong Thai website. The "confirmation note" is valid for 60 days from the order date. Visa, MasterCard, UnionPay and American Express are accepted payment methods for online orders.

If purchasing in person at a branch office, only cash/EPS is accepted. You will receive a paper voucher valid until 31 December 2018 which must be exchanged for a ticket at the Airport Express station ticket counter.

Confirmation Note is redeemed at Airport Express Customer Service Centre at Tsing Yi/Kowloon/Hong Kong stations; not HKIA station. When flying into HKIA, head directly to Airport Express train. My wife and I are arriving on Tuesday at HKG and leaving on the following Sunday (5 nights). What type of transit card should we get? We'd like to take the Airport Express MTR into Central and return on Sunday. In between, we will visit a few tourist sites, Star Ferry, etc. We like to travel by public transportation where possible. Should I buy an Oyster Card, a Kloot AEX pass or pay the round trip airport express train and buy individual metro tickets while in Hong Kong? A combination of the two? Thanks for your help.

You should get regular on-loan Octopus Cards (Oyster won't help - that's London!), which you get at the Airport Express service counter at the airport. You need to pay HK$ cash (which you can get from the ATMs in the arrival hall - use the HSBC or Bank of China ones, not the Travelex ones in baggage claim, which may have fees associated with them). The base price is HK$150 each, which is a $50 deposit (refundable in cash, along with any unused credit, less $9 admin fee if you return the card at the airport on the way out) and $100 of stored credit. You can top them up (for cash) at any MTR station or 7-Eleven convenience store around town

However, for the Airport Express you should buy a "Group of 2" ticket for each of your journeys - that's cheaper than using your Octopus card for that trip. You can do that when you get your Octopus cards at the airport.

As an update to Klook,
1) They have taken longer to activate recently (1-2 hours), my GF today and a local FTer reported that it didnt work as quickly as it used to (they used to work pretty much instantly). So unless you buy the ticket as you land or the day before, you'll have to be slightly creative (the gatesmen will not let you pass just because the tickets arent activated).
2) They've had a security breach recently. so some have had the card mis-used... they say app users werent affected, but i guess security is best when buying the tickets in person using card at the station.

PS. for 1-3 people, Klook still beats group fares.

For Octopus, see above from christep. BTW for london, you could have used contactless and do away with the oyster

Klook accepts all valid and legal credit cards and you earn credits for future Klook purchases. I have bought tickets during the ride on the lift to the train level after in town check in. It is that fast.
Have you recently tried doing that? Failed to use the QR code in HOK station when the ticket was bought in a car outside Legco (5-10 mins to MTR gates tops) today.

My wife and I are going to Honk Kong this weekend, will be taking Airport Express to Hong Kong Station. Am I right in thinking the Group of 2 option is the cheapest way? Seems like $170 for the both of us compared to $110 each using Octopus cards.

Klook.com is $71 one way pp.

I didn't have any issue with getting the QR code voucher. There are some who mention they did not get it within minutes of purchase.

Klook has suffered a data breach. According to its official announcement:

The incident resulted in the possible compromise of personal data and credit card information provided by customers. Transactions made on the Klook website between December 11, 2017 to June 13, 2018 may have been impacted, and those made via the Klook mobile app (both iOS and Android) were not. While investigations are ongoing and Klook is working to categorically exclude customers from risk, Klook estimates that approximately 8% of users may have been affected. Klook has actively reached out to notify potentially impacted customers.

That's what it cost my wife and I earlier this week for a group of 2 one way to Hong Kong Central. I'm leaving tomorrow (Sunday) on a 5 pm flight for the Maldives. Perhaps I will see you in the airport!!!!!

i dont think it is of MTR's interest to allow this (it would canabalize octopus ticket sales which is the full fare)
I think MTR is also behind Klook's ticketing delay

It's $110 only here - but is this limited to HK-issued Visas?
