Thank you flyingnomadic! I guess I will not be able to book that rate as I have to book a double room when my wife travels with me. I use the spouse stays free program but that works only if I book a double room with the rate for one person.

I really appreciate that you took the time to provide a detailed explanation.

The £26.40 rate (I believe it was that) with PR13CB is AFAIK dead.

Discount for that code has been reduced eff. 2015, and now works out similar to any advance rates.

Spouse stays free works when booking single room as well. No idea what happens in rare case of no upgrade to double available though.

Having said that, to escape a mouldy place for £55/night (???! get out of there???!), £55 at the Met are a distinct possibility for rate.

Unfortunately it's a rented house for 1650 Pounds a month. My dear wife tried to convince me to buy an apartment in Florida to park half our furniture and other belongings when we moved from the US to here just outside Coventry. So, it's all my fault that we moved everything which gives us very little flexibility. We are not able to find something suitable that would fit everything and that would be more affordable. She is getting so depressed. In a sense, I worried that she would also park herself in that apartment. But this is significantly OT. I just got interested in this hotel as by train from Tile Hill to the Birmingham International station it's only 8 minutes. Naturally I did not check how to get to the hotel from the train station.

Sorry to continue the OT, but could you not just put the furniture and other possessions that you don't have space for into storage here?

To keep it on topic, currently wide awake in B'ham Metropole at 00:10 listening to the bass of a wedding three floors below. Not impressed

I've heard a few folk complain of loud music from the function room , a bunch of my staff went to the interplas exhibition and said the same thing!.

Stayed here Saturday night on way back up North. Lounge is closed for refurbishment but is temporarily in the Terrace room - just further down the corridor from the main restaurant. Hostess described the old lounge as looking tired and worn. Should reopen later this week.

Had no problem with the temporary lounge facilities but had a conversation with the Guest Relations manager at check-in about the dilapidated state of the first two rooms we were offered (both double superior rooms - hate to think what a non-superior room would be like). Apart from the public areas this hotel really is in dire need of some love and attention.

Arrived 3-30 pm....preupgraded from double guest room to queen exec.....room 2209...... Room is fairly nice, as usual no robes, but bed comfy and sort of lake view.......went to afternoon tea in lounge and was pleasantly surprised .....nice selection of sandwiches and large selection of cakes and scones.....quite impressive ....... Then went for a swim, again very nice, fairly quiet and relaxing........I'm now in the lounge as I write this, and guess what.....quite impressive !......Beers are red stripe ( my fav ) and becks......red and white wine but no cava ( booooooo) and also no spirits!.
Canapés are lamb koftas , cheese and onion goujons ......nice cheeseboard with four types of cheese and crackers but no grapes.
Lounge is half full and there is a nice atmosphere ......lounge dragons are friendly........we are going down to dinner in bar later so willreport back after breakfast.

Trip report 30-8-15

Arrived 2pm, room not ready, lounge access granted and room became ready just after 3 pm.
Booked twin deluxe room, preupgraded to twin exec , wanted double deluxe but none available at time of booking, did put note in Comments box, but no luck.......fair selection of sandwiches and cakes at afternoon tea service, lounge empty......went for swim and sauna, pool busy with kids splashing around and screaming......sauna not hot enough due to kids opening door in and out.....annoying and a waste of time!.
Went to exc lounge at 6 pm .....very quiet .....beers were red stripe and becks......didn't look at wine.
Canapés were the usual uninspiring duck spring rolls and potato whaffles .....cheeseboard was nice but no grapes!.
Went and had fish and chips in bar around 10pm........very nice and great service too!.
Slept ok, used gym before breakfast and got to say it's very good?
Breakfast in restaurant was good too , it always is here, tasty bacon!.
Swift check out and parking comped
Hotel was very busy this time with a salsa and Christian conventions on.......young teenagers everywhere , playing football in the lobby and playing about in the lifts pressing all the buttons etc ....several times this wound me up.....next stop hilton York .

One of the few hotels I book a prepaid rate , often PR11PN , if I can get entry level Single Guest room it is circa £50 and I always get a King Exec upgrade

Mentioning prepaid as I also not charged for parking even when I checked in Friday eve , stayed 1night but left the car 2 more nights whilst I popped back to Amsterdam 6am Saturday. I did mention this but checkin desk lady said don't worry it's ok

Desk just takes carpark entry tkt and swaps for one valid for 15days more (usually valid to exit. for 30days period but issued/created 10-15 dats earlier). I wad under impression not charged for carpatk as I had already prepaid the room, so too much agro to charge my cc £9 fir a night

Just to add a data point on this property

Have recently stayed here less but still the Hilton I see most regularly from the inside...
- the resorts world and casino opposite are now open
- rates have significantly increased, i.e. the crazy cheap steals have disappeared, anything between £40-60 are now the bargain rates
- water is now in room again on Exec level, bathrobes and slippers are not.
- no form of welcome gift
- exec lounge offer unchanged, the pastry chef at the hotel still gets to present some of his excellent work for afternoon tea, evening fare unchanged with a rather uninspiring selection of hot items and wine+beer 6-8.30pm. New hit addition is soup and bread, and I believe a selection of sparkling wines.
- exec lounge refurbished in the new Hilton look. Lounge attendants also in new (fairly smart) attire.

As I say, they certainly are still pulling off the trick with the amazing cakes in the afternoon. Among the best I had in the UK.

First stay here, second day... Decent so far.

Check-in was smooth last night, hotel had a function so was fully booked. Had booked a twin deluxe room but the hotel were happy to change it today to a queen bed room (executive suite!).

Went to the gym today after work - functional as always. Decent set of equipment but not many mats or space for mats so that can be frustrating. Dumbbells up to 20kg, bench press available. Pool is gorgeous - swim tomorrow morning I'm thinking.

In executive lounge now - is quite nice although very contemporary feel. Happy hour is 6-8pm. Currently around 3/4 full at 7pm but it's definitely not a working atmosphere - quite loud and lively at the moment. Only attendant is being kept busy refilling the beers to spend time doing much else (they are pretty much going as soon as they're put in the fridge).

Hot food offering tonight is spring rolls, vegetable samosas, tomato and smoked chilli soup. Spring rolls and samosas nice, didn't try the soup. Canapes include smoked salmon mousse on bread (yum!), plus hummus on some sort of vegetable base. Other bites are peppers, tomatos, olives, cheese board and crackers.

Drinks are a little disappointing - no spirits! Although that's probably a good thing tonight. Spanish white and red wine - red is a nice medium-bodied option. Also have Merlot Rose and Cava. Strawberries on the side are a nice touch. Bottled beers are London Pride, Becks and San Miguel. Becks and San Miguel are going, going, gone (again)... Second attendant just arrived! Very much needed.

Also had breakfast in the lounge this morning but will probably go to the restaurant - was a very limited offering and with only one attendant, it didn't seem worth ordering my normal avocado and poached eggs.

Will continue to report...
