Question about free night certs?

I used a bunch last year, but I've been quite happy at Hilton, so I'm stayin' awhile (plus I'm too tired to start over again).
Specifically how do you earn them, and what are the restrictions for using them?

just about 475 w/ 4 free nites, 1 more to come. Avg 2 reward stays/year; recently used 4 free nites, will travel on reward again soon. Takes us a while to gather points 'cause most properties we use are inexpensive ($70 - $120/nt)

130K here but I use mine regularly for my wife to get a break from the kids for a weekend while I am home. We've used almost 200K so far this year.

Now hold on, I only said I had points envy, not "200 stays a night in a strange room" envy.

610k

Allsince October 26, 2005 to make it more impressive ^ (and double diamond to boot!)

Live at an ES 4-5 nights a week paying ~200 a night + parking/room service

Gotta love triple and double promos. I think in one week I netted 39K points during triple points.
