Just used points for 5 nights in February. I hope I'm upgraded from the accessible room I currently reserved.

The Rostrevor Hotel is very basic and located in St. Lawrence Gap. You will pass the Gap on your way from the airport to the Hilton.

I really liked how close my room was to the water. My room looked over the pool. The other side of the pool contained a sea wall of large rocks. This magnified the ocean sound and made it very enjoyable. I stayed at the Rostrevor two nights before heading to the Hilton for a week or so. I saved money (especially for my late arrival like yours) and got to experience the Gap nightlife before heading to the tranquil Hilton.

Thank you for the reply. I have a room booked at the Gemini House for $110 including tax. Nice folks and got excellent reviews at TA. Plus I'll only be there for 8 hours total.

All in all, a nice hotel. It's a bit of a walk to get anywhere, but we enjoy walking. I love taking that #11 van for $1US. Booked lowest room on points. The staff was fantastic and gave us an upgrade to the two room suite in 177 and 179. The breakfasts were not for me although it looks like they tried hard. The hot plates at 5pm were not very good either. We did take advantage of the free water and soft drinks throughout the day. Here are a couple of pics from my two balconies. Feel free to ask any questions.

Mixed feelings about this hotel after staying for a week last month.

The hotel itself was fine and of a reasonable standard for the Caribbean. Nice pools. Rooms were ok and clean. Nowhere near Eastern standards but good for the Caribbean. Nice staff too. Only real negative was the soft drinks prices were extortionate. I expected alcohol to be pricey but found the soft drinks inexcusably high.

The diamond experience was rubbish. No room upgrade as the hotel was full. The lounge was rubbish. Breakfast was poor. Evening was even worse. No atmosphere in the lounge at all. What a shame.

What does "nowhere near Eastern standards" mean?

And as a Diamond you're complaining because you didn't get an upgrade but the hotel was full, what did you expect? Upgrades are given 'based upon availability upon check in'.

I'm staying here for a week at the end of August. I'm booked in a standard ocean view room, but I can change to an executive room for $20 more per night. From other posts, it doesn't sound like an executive room is worth $20/nt, however, it might be worth it if it gets me an upgrade into a suite. Is this hotel strict about only upgrading diamonds one category? If not, I would keep the basic ocean view room that I have and hope for a suite upgrade.

I stayed there for a week in February, booked in a standard room with points. After a lot of kibitzing with a very friendly front desk and manager I got an upgrade to a suite without a fee.

Glad to hear it. I think I'll try my luck with the basic room.

Is it worth renting a car in Barbados?

Yes, but only for one day to explore the other side of the island. The shuttle system is cheap, easy, and actually a lot of fun.

This thread has been quiet for awhile. I'm headed there the first weekend of June. Anyone have anything interesting to add from experiences over the last 12 months?

Gold Stay August 2015

I stayed last week for two nights on business. I have been to this property multiple times over the past 10 years, usually for 1-2 nights at a time. This time I was disappointed.

I was upgraded to an Executive floor, I had lounge access, and I had a welcome snack in my room when I arrived.

I used the lounge for breakfast on my first morning. I couldn't help but think, "Is that it?" The word meagre comes to mind. I went back the next morning to grab a coffee, and the offering was again very thin. I took breakfast in the main restaurant.

I also tried out the lounge during evening happy hour. It has been years since this property offered complimentary drinks in the lounge, so I was expecting to pay for my beer, but again I was shocked by the limited snacks on offer. I arrived less than half an hour after opening and the cheese plate was picked clean but for one lonely piece of brie. The lounge attendants were serving small plates from the kitchen, one table at a time. Why so cheap? It gives a terrible impression.

The min-bar in my room (and assume the others) was empty, although the fridge was still there.

The hotel now uses towel cards, which I find to be a nuisance. (Has been in place since before my last visit in Sept 2014).

On the plus side, the kids club has been moved to a much nicer location near the pool bar / basketball net and the staff there seems to be keeping the kids active rather than plunking them in front of the TV. There are other improvements around the pool with a line of hammocks strung up on the beach.

But the worst incident was the with the room renovations taking place on the 7th floor. I was on the 6th. I was already awake, but at 7 am the hammering started. It wasn't bone rattling, more like someone mounting moulding with a small hammer, but it was constant. I made a fuss at reception about it, but the response was underwhelming.

Hilton Barbados - Construction Warning!!!

Checked in yesterday with family on the last leg of our Barbados vacation. Usually seamless, enjoy the beachfront suites and the ease of the executive lounge with the kids.

However want to warn to stay those considering to stay away or at the least arrange one of the limited rooms away from the noise.

After several phone calls we were told that "light work" was being done between 11am and 3pm, not construction. Don't believe it. There is hammering, drilling, pounding and things that are being dragged around.

A room free of noise and pounding "cannot be guaranteed" during the hours of 11-3 if we 'choose' to remain in the room... Funny, thought I was paying for uninterrupted use.

More than disappointed and will find a solution (or not) with management.

But, in the interim, don't want anyone else to loose days of their vacation negotiating the same issue while on site.

What's light work to you? Hammering and drilling can be about the lightest work being done.

What's actually being done? How close is your room to the construction?

How many people are in their rooms between 11-3 in Barbados?
