Hilton Auckland: upgraded to Suite on an award stay.. Considering there are only 7 of these rooms in the hotel, I was surprised to get the upgrade. Breakfast comps were refused, however, but this seems to be standard operating procedure for most international properties.

Non-US (and mostly non-UK) hotels as a rule treat Golds much better than in US/UK. That being said, my treatment at London Metropole was very nice - upgrade to West Wing, lounge access, very early morning check-in. Hilton Budapest was also very nice - upgrade to executive floor w/ lounge access, room w/ fantastic view of Danube River and Pest, bottle of wine and chocolates welcome gifts. At the Berlin Hilton, I received executive floor room (but no view at all) and lounge access (but it was a great lounge).
In the U.S., probably my best upgrade was a Jr. suite at the Hilton Dallas Park Cities, and a whirlpool suite (twice) at the Vacaville, CA HI.

Got a triple room upgrade to a huge corner suite with 2 balconies at the HHV last Dec. in Hawaii. Booked with the lowest rate offered online ($195). Even though we were put in the older Tapa tower, 30th floor, with no exec lounge access; great panorama views of both the ocean and the city made the stay quite enjoyable.

We have had two great upgrades. The first was at the HWV for a 100K ALON. When we checked in, we were scheduled to get a room at the Lagoon Tower - First Floor. When I requested an upgrade (our anniversery), the desk clerk looked, and looked, and finally came up with a room in the Ocean Tower - 6th Floor - with a view of the golf course, mountains, and a little bit of the ocean. The only problem was the room had two double beds. Not a real problem. We also got lounge access. Got the Kohala shampoos, etc. at least twice a day (we almost filled up a drawer)
Had a great time!
The second was last year at Quebec City. We were given a Jr. Suite and had Lounge Access. All this for a low low rate. We would stay there again in a heartbeat. Food was great, and all of the drinks were free. Did not see anyone abusing this, which was great.
The third best was at the San Francisco where we were upgraded to a room with Lounge Access. Staff were outstanding!

I echo on the Conrad HK for the most outstanding treatment, we felt we were really being taken care of.
But the most consistent would go to London Metropole. Every time, gold status is recognised and rewarded. Had problems with Paddington. Locationwise I prefer Paddington but I don't mind walking to Metropole, even with a bag, because it's well worth it!

I am treated like "gold" at the Hilton in Disneyworld. Always upgraded and they always give me the view I am looking for.

I regularly stay at the Islington Hilton (previously as a Gold) and have been treated very well - I always get one of the two rooms I really like or occasionally one of their suites. This may, however, be because I stay there 12 times a year as well as being Gold.
I've had some excellent room upgrades as a Gold, but sometimes they have been matched by nothing else but the upgrade.
I think that apart from Islington, the best treatment has come from Prague, Barcelona and Cairns.
The worst has been Leicester, Leeds and Melbourne.
I await to see what my one year as Diamond brings me (and yes, I am planning a decent on Rome).

I must agree that the London Metropole treats its gold HHs well. We were upgraded on an ALON stay. The executive lounge was very nice. The Berlin Hilton also upgraded us to a large room with a view of the cathedral. The executive lounge in this hotel was wonderful. It was our anniversary and they provided champagne in our room. I love the location of this hotel. It is steps from the concert hall and underground.
The HHV treats its gold HHs well. We were upgraded to a wonderful corner room (2501) in the Rainbow Tower.
At Marriott we got NOTHING for gold. Why bother?
